Abstract
ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
A simple carrier for elongated articles such as hockey sticks includes a thin, rectangular metal strip for placing against one side of the article, a female Velcro (trademark) strip attached to the outer surface of the metal strip which bows outwardly to define a handle for carrying the article, and a pair of transversely extending male Velcro strips sandwiched between the ends of the metal strip and the female Velcro strip for wrapping around the article to secure the metal strip and handle to the article. Of course, a plurality of articles can be stacked together and carried by a single carrier.

Description
~9~
This invention relates to a carrier for elongated articles, and in particular to a carrier for hockey sticks and the like.
Article carriers of generally the type described herein are disclosed oy, for example United States Patents Nos. 2,608,328, which issued to W. Olson on August 26, 1952; 2,744,668, which issued to J. Henigman on May 8, 1956; 3,257,054, which issued to J.A. Miesel on June 21, 1966; 3,278,097, which issued to G.C.
Duckworth on October 11, 1966; 3,768,711, which issued to C.H.
Wilkinson on October 30, 1973; 3,780,920, which issued to D.E.
Green on December 25, 1973; 3,880,336, which issued to A.J.
Demasson on April 29, 1975; 4,402,542, which issued to P. Kreutzer on September 6, 1983 and 4,586,745, which issued to J.S. Shepard on May 6, 1986.
For the most part, the patented devices are somewhat complicated and consequently expensive to produce. Another problem which could be encountered with such devices is the difficulty of attaching the devices to articles to be carried.
The object of the present invention is to overcome the above-defined problems by providing a relatively simple carrier for elongated articles which is easy to produce and readily attachable to articles to be carried.
Accordingly, the invention relates to a carrier for an elongated article comprising elongated, thin, planar body means for locating against one side of the article; elongated -` 1269962 flexible strip means extending between the ends of an outer surface of said body means, said strip means being bowed outwardly to define a handle; elongated flexible strap means extending transversely outwardly from on side of each end of the body for extending around the article and consequently around said body means into overlapping engagement with the ends of said strip means, and fastener means on the outer surface of said strip means and the inner surface of said strap means for securing the strap means to the ends of said strip means while tightly wrapped around the article, whereby the article can be carried using said strip means.
The invention will be described in greater detail with reference to the accompanying drawing, which illustrates a preferred embodiment of the invention, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view from above and one end of an article carrier in accordance with the invention in the fully open positioni Figure 2 is a perspective view of the article carrier of Fig. 1 in the partially closed position; and Figure 3 is a perspective view of the article carrier of Figs. 1 and 2 in the closed, use position on a plurality of hockey sticks.
While the carrier of the present invention was designed specifically for hockey sticks, it will be appreciated that such carrier could be used to carry other elongated articles such ~269~6~
as skis or even containers.
For the sake of simplicity, the description of the carrier which follows has been limited to a carrier for hockey sticks.
With reference to the drawing, the carrier of the present invention which is generally indicated at 1 includes an elongated, rectangular metal strip defining a body 2 for placing against one side of a hockey stick handle 3 (Fig. 3).
Thin, rectangular pads 4 (Fig. 1) are attached to the bottom surface of the body 2 at the ends thereof. The pads 4 are formed of foam rubber or a similar material for improving friction between the carrier 1 and the hockey stick handle 3, i.e. for preventing sliding of the carrier 1 along the handle.
An elongated fabric strip 6 with the female or loop portion 7 of Velcro (trademark) on the top or outer surface thereof is attached to the top surface of the body 2 by rivets 8. The fabric strip 6 is sufficiently long that the centre 9 thereof bows outwardly to define a handle. An elongated fabric strap 10 extends outwardly from each end of the body 2. The strap 10 is sandwiched between one end of the strip 6 and the body 2, and is connected to the remainder of the carrier by a rivet 8.
The male or hook portion 11 of the Velcro fastener is provided on the bottom or inner surface of each strip 10.
In use, it is merely necessary to place the body 2 against one side of a hockey stick handle 3, and to wrap the lZ6996~
straps 10 around the h~ndle so that the ends of the straps can be placed in locking engagement with the ends of the strip 6.
Of course, a plurality of hockey sticks 12 can be stacked together and carried using a single carrier 1.
