Abstract
Abstract of the Disclosure This invention relates to a safety cover plate for electrical wall outlets.
A depth dimension provides a shallow trough for sliding plates that are spring biased for movement into recesses to expose the outlets or for movement out of the recesses to mask the outlets. The spring biasing and travel stop means ensure that the plates are secure from tampering. The cover mounting uses the convention mid-point screw.

Description
This invention relates to a safety cover plate for wall outlets in an electrical wiring system.
Heretofore, cover pla-tes that mask the slots have snapped on, screwed on or been hinged on.
The cover plate of this invention has sliding plates that can be pushed back into recesses to expose the outlets, or drawn out of the recesses to overlie or mask the outlets. The sliding plates are spring biased outwardly as they are moved out of their recesses. They are stable in their limit positions.
This cover plate has par-ticular application in outlets adiacent floor areas.
Here is where the creepers and toddlers explore the world around them. A
plug is something to be pulled out, slots are something to probe, and so on.
In ~urther description of the invention, reference is made to the accompany-ing drawings wherein, Fi~ure 1 is a plan of the cover plate and, Figure 2 is a longltudinal mid-section of the plate.
As shown in Figure 1, a somewhat elongated cover plate 1 is mounted over an outlet box using a conventional mounting screw 2. Sliding plates 3,3 are shown in a masking position on the le~t and in a retrac~ed position on the right. Stop bars 4,~ limit the in and out movement of each sliding plate.
The spring bias members for each plate are shown at 5,5 in Figure 2.

Claims
The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property privilege is claimed are defined as follows:
" A cover plate for electrical outlets having a projection on its outer surface enclosing a shallow trough, sliding plates in the trough movable in opposed directions form recessed revealing positions to masking safety positions for each outlet receptacle, stop means attached to the sliding plates and limiting the movement of the sliding plates and wherein the sliding plates are spring biased at rest and during movement."
