Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
A portable air compressor is disclosed which comprises an air compression chamber and a hose connected to the chamber.
An air pressure gauge is located close to but is spaced from the chamber. The invention includes a hose storage device which is formed by an outer wall of the gauge and is adapted for receiving the hose. The advance in the art is in the provision of a simple, convenient and low cost means for-storing the air hose on the compressor itself.

Prior portable air compr~ssors, such as those powered fro~ a 12 volt cig~rette ~1ghter receptacle, ha~e rel~ed on a pluna1lty of designs for stora~e of the 21r hose when not ;n use. The priQr de4igns hav~ not: proven ~o ~e entirety satlsfactory. For ex~mple, 1n one compressor, the hose is roll~d and stored ~n a box-shaped po¢ket tn the molded pl~st1c compressor h~using.
This design requ~res a spe~i~l enclosure to be molded ln the housing and thus adds to the cos~ and complexity a~ ~he un~t. In ~ second type, the hose ts rolled and stored in a carry1ng case ~or the ccmpressor. This d~slgn does not prov~de a means ~or hose ~orage except when the u~ is ln ~ts ~se. Th~s 1s obv~ously tn~onv~nlent as many users do not tore ~he un~t ln 1ts case all or part of the t1me. In s~ilt a thtrd type, ~he hose ~s very short in leng~h and no s~ora~e is requ;red. The third design sl~f~ers from the d;s4dYantage that the hose length 1s too short for eonv~ntent use. The short hose length requires the unit to be hand-held for most applicatlon ~ Sumaa~y of the Invention Accordln~ly, it 1$ an ob3ect o~ this iment~on 1s ~o provide po~table a~r compressor wlth a s~mple, conven1ent an~ low cost~ ns for storin~ an ~tr hose on the compressor i~self.
