Abstract

TAKE-UP SPOOL FOR A DEVICE FOR APPLYING AND CONVEYING
A HOSE-SHAPED PROTECTIVE COVERING FOR A TOILET SEAT

A B S T R A C T

In the take-up spool of a device for applying and conveying a hose-shaped protective covering for a toilet seat, a cavity is provided into which disc-shaped tablets can he inserted for deodorization and/or disinfection. The cavity has stops for securing the tablets' position and openings for discharging the agents given off by the tablets to the air.

Description

~23~

01 The inven-tion relates -to a take-up spool -for a device 02 for applying and conveying a hose-shaped protective covering 03 for a toilet seat, whereby the pro-tective covering is drawn off 04 from an unwinding spool and rolled up onto a mo-tor-driven 05 ta~e-up spool after use and whereby -the unwinding spool and the 06 take-up spool are arranged in a common housing which is -to be 07 fastened to the toilet seat.
08 A device of this type is known from German Patent 09 No. 28 35 257. It became apparen-t with use of this known device that a deodorization and/or disinfection is desirable 11 with the covering which is rolled up on-to the take-up spool 12 after use.
13 It is therefore the object of the invention to 14 provide, in the area of the take-up spool, an effective deodorization and/or disinfection which, on the one hand, work 16 reliably and, on the other hand, can be realized at low cost 17 with respect to manufacture and use.
18 This object is accomplished, according to the 19 invention, with a take-up spool of the above-mentioned type in which the take-up spool comprises a cavity into which 21 disc-shaped tablets can be inserted which give off deodorizing 22 and/or disinfecting agents to the surrounding air. The tablets 23 can comprise subs~ances which are known in themselves for the 24 noted purposes and can be very easily inserted into the cavity provided therefor and, if necessary, replaced. They develop 26 maximum effectiveness at this point, since the used protective 27 covering is rolled up onto the take-up spool and thus comes 28 directly under t~e influence of the agents given off by the 29 tablets. The arrangelment of the tablets inside the take-up spool is, moreover, aLso very advantageous because, in this 31 otherwise unused location, they do not require any additional 32 place in the housing, which should be made as small as 33 possible.
34 In a practical embodiment of the invention, the cavity has stops for determining the position of the tablets.

01 In accordance with a preferred embodimen-t, the take-up 02 spool ~Eor a protective covering for a toiIet saat is tubular and 03 has a cavity into which disc-shaped tablets can be inserted which 04 give off deodorizing and/or disinfecting agents to the 05 surrounding air. ~ stop wall is located in -the middle poction of 06 the cavity. At least one elastic tongue protrudes from the inner 07 wall of the tubular spool spaced from the s-top wall and defines 08 thereby a tablet stopping position. The tongue is movable by a 09 tablet during insertion thereof to a non-stopping position for passage of a tablet into the space between the stop wall and the 11 elastic tongue. A passage enables gas to pass from the cavity.
12 For practical purposes, the disc-shaped tablets have a 13 diameter which is a little smaller than the inside tubular diameter 14 o. the take-up spool, so that they can be inserted into the cavity coaxially to its longi-tudinal axis from its ends. The agents given 16 oEf by the tablets can then pass out through the ends of the tube 17 and through suitable openings thereof. For this purpose, slots, 18 which project axially beyond the rolled-up protective covering, are 19 preferably provided at the ends of the spool tube.
Generally, one tablet each for deodorization and for dis-21 infection are simultaneously inserted into the cavity. The tablets 22 are usually provided with a protective casing which must either be 23 removed prior to insertion or else is automatically removed by ~24 abrasion on the inner wall of the tube. For this purpose, in a ~25 further embodiment of the invention, the inner wall of the tube is 26 provided, in the area of the cavity, with roughenings which 27 facilitate the automatic removal of the protec-tive casing.
28 A preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in 29 greater detail with reference to the drawings, showing:
Fig. 1 a partly schematic a~ial section through the take-up 31 spool and rolled-up protective covering, and 32 Fig. 2 a partial cross-section taken along the line II-II
33 in Figure 1.
34 The take-up spool 10 is shaped like a tube which is notatable in two parallel walls 12 and 14 of the housing, which 36 is otherwise not shown. The motor drive of take-up spool 10 is 37 also not shown since it does not form part of the invention.

01 In the illus-trated exarnple, a large quantity of the used 02 hose-shaped protective covering 16 is already rolled up onto 03 the take-up spool lO.
04 In the middle area of the tubular take-up spool lO, a 05 stop wall 20 is provided, which has an opening 18 and which i.s 06 arranged at right angles to the longitudinal axis 22 of the 07 take-up spool 10. As counter-stops, elastic tongues 24 are 08 provided which protrude inwardly in one piece from the inner 09 wall of the take-up spool 10, -the ends 26 of said tongues, which are bent outward at right angles, project into openings 11 28 of the take-up spool 10 which are provided therefor. Two 12 disc-shaped tablets 30, which are arranged coaxially to the 13 longitudinal axis 22, are inserted into the cavity 29 between 14 stop wall 20 and elastic tongues 24, these tablets have been inserted into the cavity 29 between the two elastic tongues 24 16 and are now held by them in their position in the cavity 29 17 formed by take-up spool 10, stop wall 20 and elastic tongues 18 24. Preferably, one of the tablets 30 gives off a deodorizing ~19 agent and the other a disinfecting agent to the surrourlding ~20 air. The inner wall of the taXe-up spool is provided with ~21 roughenings 32 in the area of the cavity 29 for automatic 22 removal of a protective casing, which is not shown, of the two 23 tablets.
24 In order that the agent given off by the tablets 30 can pass out in a controlled manner in the outer area of -the 26 rolled-up protective covering 16, elongated slots 34 are 27 provided near the ends of the take-up spool 10, these slots 28 protrude in the axial direction beyond the lateral edges of the 29 protective covering 16.
