1 sAcKGRo~ND OF THY INVENTION
The present invention relates generally to an improvement in or relating to a dummy bar for use in the equipment for the continuous casting operations.
ITS. 1 (a) and (b) are schematic views showing a. typical construction of the continuous casting equipment, FIG. (a) being a schematic side elevation Al view of the continuous `10 casting equipment, and FIG. (b) a fragmental view showing in cross section the relationship of thy members involved taken along the line A-A of FIG. 1 (a); and FIG 2 is a schematic cross sectional view, taken in the longitudinal direction, owing the detail of construe-15 lion, by way of a preferred embodiment, of the head of the dummy bar according to the present invention.
The typical construction Go a dummy bar which is known in the art of continuous casting is generally as shown in FIGS. 1 (a) and 1 (b). In such construction, as typically shown in these drawing figures, it is seen that there art generally provided a casting mold for the continuous casting operations designated at the reference numeral 2, a dummy bar designated at 3, a pair of drawing rolls at 4, a dummy bar I Lo support arm at 5, a driving mechanism 6 for the dummy bar, a segment of cast piece 7 and a pressure mechanism 8 for the pair of drawing rolls 4. In this equipment, according to the conventional operations particularly in the handling of the dummy bar, it is known that the dummy bar 3 is inserted down-warmly into the casting mold 2 in such a manner that the dummy bar 3 would be seen projecting partly downwardly from the casting mold 2, thereafter having the same bar 3 secured upon the leading end of the dummy bar support arm 5, and then the casting mold 2 is filled slowly with a cooling material 1 in an extended period of lime. This elongated period of lima taken in the cowering of the cooling material 1 has undoubtedly been of one of the major bottle-neck factors in toe reduction of the efficiency of operation in the continuous casting equipment in connection with the employment of the dummy bar operations. As long as the use of the dummy bar is inevitable in the continuous casting operations, such problem cannot be - avoided in practice.
The present invention is essentially directed to the provision of a proper resolution to such inconveniences in practice as outlined above and experienced in the handling of the conventional dummy bar in the continuous casting opera-lions, which have not been attended with any proper counter-measures therefore ..
Lo It is therefore a primary object of the present invent lion to provide an improved dummy bar for use in the keynote-Nazi casting operations, which may reduce a period of time as generally spent in the charging of the cooling material inlay the casting mold of the continuous casting equipment, which would usually consume a considerable extension of time, and which would substantially contribute to an improvement in the efficiency of the casting operations in practice.
More specifically, it is a further object of the present invention to provide an improved dummy bar construction to use in the continuous casting operations, which is specific-'I ally designed to have the cooling material incorporated in ! the dummy bar head, which may bring a ready effect in cutting the period of time in the charging of tile cooling material into the casting mold, which would take a substantial time period.
The principle, nature and details of the present invent lion will, as well as advantages thereof, become more apparent ED from the following detailed description by way of a preferred embodiment of the invention, when read in conjunction with - the accompanying drawings.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
The present invention will now be described in detail 25 by way of example on a preferred embodiment thereof in Sly conjunction with the accompanying drawing, as follows.
Now, referring to FIG. 2, -there is shown, by way of a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the improved construction of a dummy bar, which comprises a dummy bar head portion designated at the reference numeral 10, a connectirlg rod 12 which is adapted to be installed immediately upon the top of the dummy bar head 10 Bohemians of a set screw 12, and a body of cooling material 13 which is operatively mounted in a prefabricated manner around the connecting rod 12, the cooling material 13 being set in operative position of the interior of a covering structure 14 made from, for instance, a cardboard sheet and the like.
More specifically, according to the advantageous con-struction of the dummy bar of the present invention, there is the body of cooling material 13, which has the known come position adapted for the cooling performance of the casting mold of the continuous casting equipment in operation and is prepared in a prefabricated manner, incorporated in operative position at the top of dummy bar head 10 by the aid of the connecting rod 11, and in operation, this prefabricated cooling element is ready to afford a cooling performance, when necessary, in contrast to the conventional cooling en-rangement to be charged into the casting mold, which would occasionally have taken a substantial period of time, whereby the operating efficiency of the continuous casting equipment ~23~5~
may well be improved to an outstanding extent, accordingly.
Now, with such advantageous features in the construction and operation of the dummy bar arrangement according to the present invention as fully noted herein before, there is at-twined an excellent performance in the improvement of opera-tonal efficiency of the continuous casting equipment by virtue of the substantial curtailment of a period of time as spent in the charging of the cooling material to the dummy bar head mounted in the casting mold, in comparison with the services taken in the conventional manner, accordingly.
It is now clear that the objects as set forth herein-before among those made apparent from the preceding descrip-lion are efficiently attained, and while the present invent lion has been explained by way of the preferred embodiments thereof, it is to be understood that many changes and mod-fixations may be made in the foregoing teaching without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention, and it is intended that all matter contained in the foregoing desk Croatian or shown in the accompanying drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in any way limiting sense.
It is also to be understood that the appended claim is intended to cover all of such generic and specific features particular to the invention as disclosed herein and all statements relating to the scope of the invention, which as a matter of language might be said to fall thereunder.
