Description
i:l'76~01 C~othes norma]ly available for cold weather out-door activities oftell fail to keep warm the iower back area especially when the user is seated for example as in snowmobiling. ~ven if a sweater is made long, it may ride up during use and expose -the lower back.
The present invention provides a sweater particularly adapted for snowmobiling but which may also be useful for other cold weather activities such as hunting and fishing, and which is designed to keep warm the lower back and seat area of the wearer, and to stay in place.
The invention provides a sweater having a main body part which reaches down to or slightly below the waist of a wearer, the sweater being conventional at the front but having at the back a rear extension including a tail piece extending across the width of the sweater back and reaching down from the body part to cover the wearer's seat. The extension also includes two leg pieces arranged to extend down the rear of the wearer's thighs and having straps for fastening around the wearer's legs to hold the rear extension in place.
The invention will be more particu]arly described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:-Figure 1 shows a front view of a sweater iIlaccordance with the invention; and Figure 2 shows a rear view of the same sweater.
The sweater as shown has a main body part 10 which is knitted in conventional manner and has a lower boundary formed by edging 12, this being normally at or slightly below the waist of a wearer.
The front half of the sweater is conventional and ends at the edging 12. The rear part however is ~,~
~i~
1~60~1 provided with an e~terlsioll including a tail-piece 14 and integral lec3 eYtensions 16. The tail-piece 1 spans the width of the sweater bac~, preferahly ex-tending along about 1/2 the periphery of the waistline, and is uninterrupted down to the crotch area of the wearer so as to cover the wearer's seat. The leg extensions 1~
are designed to fit around the rear of the wearer's thighs and reach down to or below the wearer's knees, where they are provided with straps 18 arranged to be fastened around the wearer's legs. The straps are shown as being provided with "Velcro" (Trademark ) type fasteners 20, although buttons, snaps or other types of fasteners may be used.
When fastened, the straps are close to or just below the knees of the wearer so as to hold the rear extension in position at all times and to prevent this riding up. The material of the sweater is sufficiently extendable and loose so as not to be unduly tight when the wearer sits down.
In a preferred form, the main body part of the sweater is knitted of acrylic material, and the rear extension is knitted of wool, and the two are sewn together.
However, it is also possible that the entire sweater including the main body part 10 and the rear extension can be knitted as one unit.
The straps 1~ may be made of various material such as wool, leather, or elastic material.
It may be noted that this arrangement using a rear extension only, without any corresponding parts on the front, makes the garment easy to use even though, in the preferred embodiment, the main body part is of pull-over form and does not have any central opening. In this sense, the garment is distinguished from combination type garments which include both leg pieces and thigh pieces but which require a central opening.
