Abstract
ABSTRACT
In previous art, for raking simultaneously with baling, the rake had to be ground supported on three caster wheels.
The applicant has a patent called "Hitch on the Right Side"
which pulls a rake ground supported on two fixed wheels at the rear and on one swivel wheel, or on the hitch in front.
This invention is an improvement and simplification of manufacture of said patent in which a hitch member is pivotally secured to one arm mean, and a double action piston make said hitch member to slide on the other arm mean or it is restrained by pins on both side in a plurality of holes in said other arms means. The new feature permits a variable lateral rake to tractor distance for various windrow sizes and type of baler. The arm means may be secured together by a hinge joint and each said arm means may include two telescopic sections for extension and contraction with lock positions.

Description

Thi~ invention relates to a hitch on the side of a tractor to pull an implement as a rake.
It is known to hitch the rake(s) behind the tractor in dlfferent ways, but the baler cannot be hitched to the ~ame tractor at the same time. So the tractor has to go through the field twice, re more soil co~paction and more fuel and time consumlng. If the wind is strong in the interval between raking and baling, there will be windrow dlsturbances result-ing in a losa to the farmer. If the rain comes before baling i8 finlshed, the windrows left will have to be done again.
These problems can be overcome by a hitch on the side of a tractor to pull a rake leaving the back hitch for the baler, raklng and ballng will be done at the ~ame time, propulsion coming from the same tractor.
In the drawings which illustrate the preferred embodiment of the invention.
Figure 1 is a plan view of the embodiment with part of the tractor;
Figure 2 is a view taken along line 2-2 of Figure l looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 3 ls an enlarged sectional view taken along line 3-3 of f~,igure l looking in the direction of the arrows.
Referrine to Figure 1, ~ront arm 10 inside section may be bent to pass ahead of tractor's front wheel 12.
Referring to Figures 1 and 2, flat member 13 is secured by means of weld or the like to the inner end of front arm 10. The flat member 13 would be ~ointed to the tractorls front hitch 14 or to an attachment similar to the attachment 16 at the side towards the front of the tractor'~ chassis by means of a 1~74863 page 2 loose vertical pin 15 pro~ected through suitable holes in ~lat member 13 and tractor's ~ront hitch 14 or the said attachment, allowing the outer end of front arm 10 to follow the contour of the ground.
Attachment 16 is secured by means Or bolts or the llke to the tractor's chassis 18 on the side. Flat member 19 secured by means o~ weld or the like to the inner end o~
rear arm 11, is ~ointed to the attachment 16 by mean o~ a loose vertlcal pin 20, allowing the outer end of rear arm 11 the ~ame rreedom as outer end of ~ront arm 10.
~ ront arm 10 and rear arm 11 may be made o~ two piece~ of tubing each telescope ~or extension or contraction with lock positlons for lenght ad~ustment.
Generally horlzontal parallel members 26 are secured to descendin6 member 28 by means o~ wel1or the like. Hitch plate 29 i8 secured to descending member 28 by means of weld or the like. Hitch plate 29 bears hole 30 where the implement as a rake, should be hitched. Parallel member 26 descendlng member 28 and hitch plate 29 are generally described as hitch member 31.
Parallel members 26 are pivolally secured to front arm 10 by means of pin 25 in suitable holes in parallel members 26 and in front arm 10. Parallel members 26 are sandwiching front arm 10 and rear arm llo The pivoting movement of hitch member 31 may be produced by double action piston 24, Bracket 22 is secured by means of weld^or the like to front arm 10. The base Or double action piston 24 is secured to brac~et 22 by pin 23 ~itted in suitable hole~; the piston rod is secured to parallel members 26 by pin 27 fitted in suitable holes.
1~ 74~63 pa~e 3 The pivoting movement of hitch member 31 will place the rake in different lateral distance to the tractor while travellin~;
a usefull feature for some type of baler who have to receive the windrow in different lateral position to produce nice bales.
Instead of double action piston 24 hitch member 31 could be restrained by means of a pin on each side, fitted in a plurality of suitable holes in rear arm llo Different pre-determlned tractor to hitch plate 29 lateral distance allow a convenient hitch for a rake of different desi~n provided rake is ground supported on two wheels.
Referring to Figures 1, 2 and 3, front arm 10 and rear arm 11 may be secured together towards thelr outer end by a hlnged ~oint 32 permitting angular displacement of arms 10 and 11 for easier quick coupling to the tractor at any two points,or storage or handlin~.
For this purpo~e a sleeve 21 is secured by means of weld or the like to the end of rear arm 11. Two plates 33 encircle each end of the sleeve 21 and are secured to front arm 10 by means of bolts 40 or the likeO
Swivel wheel assembly 36 has as upright wheel 37 rotata~y supported on an axle 38. Secured to axle 38 upright standard 39 pro~ects through the sleeve 21. Retaining members 34, as collars, secured to standard 39 maintains standard 39 assembled with the hinged ~olnt 32.
