Abstract
ABSTRACT
A merchandising container for goods such as fruits and produce comprises a net bag positioned between and supported by a pair of wide flexible bands which are joined together at their upper and lower ends.
This arrangement provides a container of greatly enhanced strength while still providing ventilation and good visibility of the produce.

Description
~116ti~
The present invention relates to an improved container or packing, specially designed for fruits and diverse garden products.
It is already well known that packages for containing such products, for instance bag-like packages consisting of a tubular net with clamped ends, are not very resistant, so that such nets can only contain a relatively small quantity of such products.
Manufacturing of the conventional packaging bags having a handle is quite expensive, as the handle has to be added during the manufacturing process.
Since normal bags having a handle are not very flexible, they do not properly fit into common transport receptacles such as boxes, cases, etc. sesides containers, such as traditional bags do not provide a useful surface for printing so that it is necessary to provide such containers with a label or the like with the con-sequent disadvantages of tearing, deterioration, difficulty of identification, etc.
The improved container disclosed herein provides a satisfactory solution to all these problems.
~ he invention provides a container comprising: a mesh bag having opposite ends; first and second bands of flexible material having opposite ends; said bands being positioned on opposite sides of said bag, with said opposite ends of said bands covering and being joined to respective said opposite ends of said bag, and with said bag and said bands being free of any connection between said opposite ends; and one said joined end of said bag and bands having formed therethrough at least one carrying opening.
Features and advantages of the present invention will be more fully appreciated by reference of the following detaile~
1166~ 9 description of a presently preferred embodiment when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the container, Figure 2 illustrates the proper container in a vertical section.
- la -The improved container consists of a bag net, designated 1 of a suitable material, specially a thermoweldable plastics material. The bag net has on two lateral opposed zones laminar bands ~ and 3 of a flexible material, superposed around and joined to the bag 1 at their extremities, by the lines of plastic thermowelding 4 and 5. The bands 2 and 3 remain separated from the bag or loose in their remaining zones. On the upper zone between the bands and the bag, after being filled up with the corresponding product 6,there are provided by extrustion openings 7, defining a handle for manual transportation.
It is most interesting to state that this bag or container is being formed in proportion of being filled up with the goods, with the consequent considerable industrial economy with respect to the already known containers.
The described bag is extremely flexible and mouldable to any shape for transportation, being at the same time very strong due to the bands 2 and 3, since it can carry a higher load than conventional existing containers actually on the market.
The bands 2 and 3, are also specially suited to receive any type of literature or graphics, as will be appreciated from figure 1, to facilitate commercialisation of the packaged product.
The union between the bands 2 and 3 and to the bag net 1 can also be made by other processes, differing from the stated thermowelding, such as adhesion, etc.
It should also be stated that the openings 7 for holding the bag and acting as handle can be replaced by a single opening with the same purpose.
The described container, besides the described advantages of greater strength, higher adaptability to useful spaces for transportation, cheaper manufacturing, bigger capacity etc. permits a total ventilation of fruits or the like, favouring preservation and visual display of the produce.
Although a particular preferred embodiment of the present invention has been disclosed in detail for illustrative purposes, it will be recognized that variations or modifications of the disclosed bag, including the configuration and size and most suitable materials and medi~lmsl lie within the scope of the present invention as defined in the appended claim.
