Description
-- The gener~l field of use is prophylactic devices to prevent the transmission of venereal diseases.
Heretoforel the well known condom is an essentially known protective device for use by the male to prevent the contracting or transmitting of a venereal disease during intercourse. In view of the limitations of the protective areas with the use of a condom, considerable additional portions of the pubic area are nevertheless exposed to contracting or transmitting of venereal disease during intercourse in the areas not protectively enclosed by the conventional condom.
While the condom has been reasonably effective QS a protective device, there are many situations where its use will not prevent the onset of venereal infection, Herpes Simplex or other communicable diseases due to pubic contact.
It is the primary feature of the present invention to provide a latex prophylactic device adapted for use in conjunction with a condom for the purpose of protecting the wearer's pubic region from invasion by pathogenic bacteria and viruses which may be in the secretions of his partner. It is a further feature to provide a pubic mask for preventing the contracting or transmitting of a venereal disease during intercourse which includes a thin flexible latex sheet of generally triangular shape which is worn over the pubic area, and which has a tubular portion adapted to receive the male organ and further includes a means by which the latex sheet may be snugly applied and retained over said pubic area, including the scrotum, and wherein the latex sheet is slightly stretched for a snug fit so that it will remain in place during coitus.
It is a further feature of the invention once the pubic mask has been app~i~d to the user that successively and thereafter a conventional condom is fitted on so as to overl-e and protectively overlap a tubular portion extending from the front face of the strip so as to provide a liquid type seal therebetween.
It is a further feature to provide a prophylactic device of the foregoing type which will be inexpensive and disposable, if desired, or which can be sterilized and reused.
According to the invention there is provided a pubic mask for preventing the contracting or transmitting of a venereal disease during intercourse comprising a thin flexible plastic sheet of general triangular shape, including a front and rear surface and having a top horizontal edge and a downwardly extending apex; an elongated tube of the same material joined to and projecting forwardly of a central

Referring to the drawing, the present pubic mask is generally indicated at 11, Figures 1 and 2. It is used for preventing the contracting and/or transmitting of a venereal disease during intercourse. The mask is constructed of a thin flexible plastic sheet 13 which is generally triangular in shape. The preferred plastic material is a liquid latex which has been sprayed into a mold or has been applied to a mold by the dipping of the mold into a quantity of liguid latex.
After forming of the mask, it is cured by baking in a suitable oven at ~-approximately 375 F for a period of five minutes, approximately.
In the preferred embodiment, shown in Figures 1 and 2, the mask has a front surface 15 and a rear surface 17, a horizontal edge 19, as used, a downwardly depending apex 21 and a pair of laterally extending apices 23.
, The respective apices of the sheet are interconnected by a suitable fastening means, generally indicated at 25, which extends around the user's body and is tied upon the back or side, such as shown in Figure 1. The fastening means may include a series of elongated strips or strands 27, preferably of fabric or a plastic material.

, . . : :
llS~5V';' `' The material of the sheet at the apices is thickened as at 31 and an aperture 29 is formed in the molding process at each apex. The elongated strands 27 at their one ends project through the respective apertures 29 and are reverse turned and suitably secured by welding or by stitching, as shown at 33. The free ends of the strands are brought together at the back or side of the user and are secured together as by the knot 35 or by any other suitable fastening mechanism.
The marginal edge portions of the sheet 13 in the manufacturing process are thickened, as at 37, so às to extend peripherally around the sheet and to ; provide a reinforcement thereof. The thickened portions may be omitted.
An elongated tube 39 of the same material, such as a suitable plastic or latex, is joined to and projects forwardiy and upwardly of a central portion of the sheet front surface lS, is in communication with rear surface 17 and is adapted to protectively enclose the male organ.
In the illustrative embodiment, the forward end of the tube is open at 41, and when fitted upon the user has applied thereto the conventional condom C,J whose open end 43 is rolled over outer portions of tube 39 with a considerable overlap such BS to provide a liquid tight seal between the condom and tube 39. An adhesive may be used.
The overl~p generally indicated at 45, Figure 1, extends for at least one-half the length of tube 39.
The sheet of formed liquid latex or other plastic material is relatively thin, in the range of .0025 inches, approximately. The thickness of the sheet may range between .0025 and .0035 inches for illustration.
The sheet may be formed to size and shape by spraying liquid latex into a mold which has been pre-formed and thereafter baked at 375 F, approximately, in an oven for five minutes, approximately.
While the fastening means generally indicated at 25 are shown as knotted as at 35 upon the back of the user, it is contemplated that any other suitable fsstening means may be employed which will accomplish the result of tensioning the mask over the pubic area and for snuggly holding it against the body and retaining it against accidental dislodgement.
The strands or tapes 27 may be secured in various ways at their one ! ends to the mask sheet 13. As shown in Pigure 2, the respective strands 27 have hooks 51.
, The lower strand 27 in the illustrative embodiment has an apertured tab 53 transversely secured upon the end of said strand which is adspted in use to receive the respective hooks 51 of the other two strands. It is contemplated that the lower strand 27 could also have a hook 51 adapted for connection to the interconnected upper strands 27 to accomplish a similar result.
One of the strands 27 in Figure 2 has a conventional type of length adjustment member 49 by which the length of the strand 27 may be adjusted as desired in the same manner as car seat belts, or the straps for garter belts and the like.
The present sheet 13 adjacent the depending area 31 has formed therein a contiguous enlQrgement defining a recessed portion adjacent the mask inner surface 17 adapted to cooperatively enclose and receive the male scrotum areas.
In use, the latex device or pubic mask 11 is to be used in conjunction -with a condom C, fragmentarily shown in Figure 1, for the purpose of protecting the wearer's pubic area or region from invasion by pathogenic bacteria and viruses and primarily for the prevention of contracting or transmitting of venereal diseases during intercourse. Initially the mask is put in place and then the straps are tied or otherwise secured at their ends so that the latex sheet is slightly stretched, fitting snugly, and fastened so that it will stay on during coitus.
After the mask has been positioned, the condom C is put on and its sleeve is rolled over the tube 39 of the mask to produce a virtually impermeable fluid tight barrier between the condom and the tube to assist in the prevention of transmitting or contracting venereal disease. After use, the mask can be washed and sterilized or can be of the throw away type.
Tube 39 may be tapered or converging at its outer end. It may be closed at its outer end end eliminate the separate use of a condom. Sheet 13 can have an outer friction reducing lamination of fibre, nylon or rayon or may be applied as a sheet.
The mask is beneficial for birth control.
lt is contemplated that said condom may form an extension of and be integral with tube 39.
