DETAILED DESCRIPTION
Proceeding therefore to describe the invention in detail, reference to the drawings will show that a rear panel 10 is provided which is preferably substantially rec-tangular in configuration when viewed in plan and which may be made from plywood, plastic or the like. An elongated leg member 11 is hinged by transverse hinge 12 to adjacent the base of a transverse brace 13 which is secured to the rear surface of the rear panel 10 by any conventional means such as adhesive, nails, screws or the like. This leg can fold outwardlydue to the hinge 12 so that it inclines at an angle and extends outwardly and downwardly from the rear panel and engages the horizontal surface upon which the device is supported so that the rear panel is supported at a rearwardly inclining angle as clearly illustrated in the drawings. A check chain 14 may extend between the leg 11 intermediate the ends thereof and an anchor point 15 substantially centrally of the rear surface 16 of the rear panel 10 as clearly shown in Figure 2.
The upper edge 17 of the rear panel may be shaped as shown in Figure 1 and may be provided with a padded head-
2~ 9 rest 18 if desir~ed which may either be secured thereto in a permanent manner by well known means or, may be hooked over the rear ed;ge 17 if a temporary attachment for said headrest is desired.
A front panel 19 is provided which is also rectan-gular when viewe,~ in plan and this front panel is preferably wider than the r~ear panel 10 and the rear panel 10 is secu-red to adjacent the rear edge or side 20 of the front panel 19 by means of a hinge 21 in the usual way so that the front panel may extend substantially horizontally from the lower edge 22 of the rear panel 10 or may be folded upwardly to lie against the front surface 23 of the rear panel as shown in Figure 3.
When i:n the position shown in Figure 1, the as-sembly may be used as a seat particularly when the headrest 18 is in position.
However, a transversely extending groove 24 is provided within the upper surface 25 of the front panel and adjacent the rear edge 20 thereof just forwardly of the hin-ge 21 so that a relatively large board 26 or the like may be engaged withi.n the groove and supported against the rear panel 10 so that the device may act as an easel or the like particularly whe:n the assembly is supported upon a support-ing surface 27 such as a table top or the like.
~i2~q~9 Furthermore, a grooved cleat 28 is secured to the underside of the front panel 19 spaced just rearward-ly of the front edge 29 thereof, said securement being bv means of adhesive, nails, screws or the like and this cleat is provided with the transverse groove 30 as clear-ly shown. When in the unfolded position shown in Figures 1 and 2, the cleat raises the front of the front panel slightly so that it acquires a slightly inclined angle relative to the support surface 27. It also acts as an anti-skid device if the assembly is being used as a seat.
When the front panel is folded upwardly against the front surfac,e 23 of the rear panel, the grooved cleat 28 is in the position shown in Figure 3 and a smaller board, sheet music or the like indicated by reference character 31 may be supported within the groove 30 and rest against the upper portion of the rear panel as shown so that the device can be used on a supporting surface such as a table top or the like.
If it is desired to store the device, then the support leg 11 is folded against the rear surface 16 of the rear panel so that a relatively flat assembly results which is easily stored or transported.
Since various modifications can be made in our invention as hereinabove described, and many apparently 2Q~9 widely different embodiments of same made within the spirit and scope of the claims without departing from such spirit and scope, it is intended that all matter contained in the accompanying specification shall be in-terpreted as illl~strative only and not in a limiting sense.
