Abstract
ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION
BEVERAGE SACHET
A beverage sachet of laminate material with a liquid-tight inner layer of thermoplastic plastice material and an intermediate layer impermeable by aromatic substances; the sachet (10) comprising two oblong wall panels (11, 12) connected with each other by welded lateral edge seams (19, 20) along their longer edges (17, 18) and an inserted bass panel (13), folded inwardly in V-shape in the region of two adjacent shorter edges (21) of the wall panels and welded to each wall panel by a respective U-shaped welded seam (22, 23). The same (22, 23) are each of substantially greater width than the lateral edge seams (19, 20) and each consist of a transverse section (24, 25) extending along the shorter edge (21) of the respective wall panel and arm sections (26, 26' and 27, 27'), which extend parallel to the lateral edge seams (19, 20) and which, in the region of the gusset formed by the inner folded edge (28) of the base panel (13) terminate in outwardly directed tapered portions (29, 29' and 30, 30') at the inner edges of the lateral edge seams (19, 20).

Th1 prslent invention rslatea to a bsverags ~achet.
In German (Fed. Rep.) patent specification (Offsnlegungs-schrift) No. 22 34 933 thura i8 dlaclo6ed e beverags ~echst of lem-inate material with a liquid-tight inner layer of th~rmoplaatic (weld-able) plaatics material and an intermediate laysr impermaable by aromatic subst~ncse. The sachst consists of two oblong film webs connected with each other by longitudinsl welding seams extending along their longsr edgsa and of an lnaerted baaa piBC8~ fOldBd inwardly in V-~hape in the region of two adJacent shorter edges of the webs and weldsd to esch web by meens of e respectivs U-ahapsd welded ssam.
ln enother known beverage sachst of this kind, which ia de~cribed in German ~F ed. Rep, ? patent specification No. 12 ~1 140, the side wslls of the sachst and the base piece are integrally formed from 8 single web of film. In this sachet, the base part is folded inwardly in V-shape in ths region of one of the shorter sides o~ the sachet, thus betwsen the wsb portions forming the side wsll~ end these portions ars connected with each othsr along thsir longer edgss by longitudinal welded seams, which in the ragion of the baee psrt join four overlying web leyers.
In ordsr to enlurs that the known sachet i8 leak-proof and has e desired degree of stability, additional engled welded seams ars required between tha lower ~dges of ths sachet end ths outsr longit-udinal ssams in the region of the inner folded edgs of ths bHee pBrt~

According to the preeent invention there ia prov$ded a bevsrage aachet of laminate aheet material with a layer of thermo-plsstic-plaatice matarial facing inwardly of the aachat and an ad-~acent layer of vapour-impermeebls material, the eachet ^ompriaing two oblong wall pansle connected together at their longer edgas by welded lateral edge seama and a baea panel folded to pro;HCt betwaen the wall pansls in the region of two edjacent ahorter edgea thersof and conneoted to each of tha wall panela at eaid longer and shorter edgee by e respective subatantially U-ahaped welded seem, which ie of greater width than either of the lateral edge seam~ and which com-pri~es a base section extending along eaid shorter edge of the rbsp-ective wall penel and two arm eections extending parellel to ths laterel edge eaame and terminating in the region of the fold of the ~sse panel in tepered portions connecting with the leterel edge aesms.
In a beverage l3schet conatruction embodying the present invantion, the angled eeame and aupporting eeems typical of the known beverege eachets are redundant. The unfolding of ths base panel during filling and etabiliSy of the aachet are echieved by the form of the U-shaped seams connecting the base psnel to the well panela, whe~eby the erm l3ections of these aeams extend parellel to the lateral edge aeams, are aubatantielly wider than tha lateral edge seams~ have tapered portionl3 in the reg~on of gusaets formed by .
52~38 ``' the inside fold edgs of ths inserted base psnel, and conneot to, et the ends of the~e t~pered portlons,the in~ide udgee of the leterel edge sesms. Due to the width of the base sectione of the U-sh~ped sesma being greeter than that of the Lateral edge seem~ it le ensured that the sechet has excellent aecurity ageinst leakage end eub~tnntial stiffnees ln it~3 base r~gion, which ie synonymous with good st0bility.
The provision of tapered snd portions of the arm sections of the U-shaped seams in the proximity of the inside fold edge of the bese panal fecilitates unfolding of the base panal during f$11ing of the sechet, yet, due to the mannsr of welding-ln of base psnel, s~gging of the middle psrt of the base panel below the support eurfeca formad by the lower 6schat edgee ia affectively psevented.

A beverage sachet made of a multi-layer compound material with a liquid-tight inner layer of a weldable thermoplastic material, and an intermediate layer which is tight to the passage of aromatic substances, said sachet comprising two generally rectangular panels or webs connected with each other by longitudinal welded seams along longer sides thereof, and a bottom section folded inwardly in an inverted V-shaped fashion and extending transversely one short side of each of said webs, said bottom section including an inserted bottom piece welded together with each of said webs by a respective U-shaped welded seam, wherein (a) the U-shaped welded seams connecting said bottom piece with said webs display each a substantially greater width than said longitudinal welded seams;
(b) each of said U-shaped welded seams being comprised of a transverse welded seam section extending along one short side of the respective web, and of side welded seam portions, each side welded seam portion being generally coextensive with the respective longitudinal welded seam and forming an extension of the respective longitudinal welded seam;
(c) each of said U-shaped welded seams being coincident with a gusset portion formed by an inner folded edge of the bottom piece and by outwardly directed slanted projections of the bottom piece, disposed each near an inner edge of the respective longitudinal welded seam.
