Abstract

ABSTRACT

A removable air inducer, wire cage and filter bag or tube for use in a dust collector wherein the air inducer, wire cage and filter bag are mounted on a support plate and open at the bag end secured to the support plate to allow air flow from bag house to plenum chamber and vice versa; in this invention the wire cage to the support plate member in dust collectors. Conventionally, the type of dust collector referred to is one comprising a hopper for collecting filter dust and other particulate matter separated plurality of air inducers, filter bags and cages therein and a plenum chamber through which is emitted the dirty air for cleaning, the cleaned air, cleaning air, or a combination of these, in all such types we refer to, there is an air inducer, a large, hollow, inverted frusto conical body concavely curving outwardly at the base area and at the top of the body extending outwardly into a circular flange then vertically upwards into a short cylindrical portion, the top of which merges into a semicircular outer lip. Filter bag and wire cage support member between the plenum chamber and baghouse. Prior to our invention it was the practice to clamp the filter bags to a fixed air inducer by clamping means situated solely within the baghouse.

SPECIFICATIONS
The following is a detailed description of our preferred embodiments in connection with the drawings in which:-Fig. 1 is a general schematic front view partially in section of a dust collector of the type generally referred to herein for practicing our invention;
Fig. 2 is a plan view partially in section of the air inducer clamping arrangement of our invention; and Fig. 3 is a front view detail of the air inducer~ wire cage and filter bag clamping arrangement.
In Fig. 1 there is shown a plurality of air inducers~
wire cages and filter bags which are suspended from support plate member and clamping arrangement.
In Fig. 2 and 3 there are shown the means by which each of the air inducers~ wire cages and filter bags are clamped to and supported from support member 5. The air inducer 3 is a large, hollow, inverted frusto conical body concavely curving outwardly at the base area and~
at the top of the body, extends outwardly into a circular flange then vertically upwardly into a short cylindrical portion~ the top of which merges into a semicircular outer lip. The bags 1 are of cylindrical shape and are u~ually made of any suitable fabric~
such as synthetic or natural woven cloth or felt~
or the like~ depending on the environmental conditions to which they will be exposed. The top portion is folded over a rope core and stitched. Each bag is reinforced at its inner surface to prevent it from collapsing to an undesi~rable degree by a one piece cage member 2 of conventional wire screen construction.

_ - 3 -The air inducer, wire cage and filter bags are locked or clamped to the support plate by means of a 1/2"
bolt ~ welded to the support plate 5 followed by a square shaped plate 7 as seen in Fig. 2. Each air inducer is clamped at four equidistant points of its periphery by the square plates which press downwardly into sealing engagement of the air inducer~ wire cage~
filter bag and support plate by means of tightening nut 6 and plate 7.
~ecause of its square shape~ the plate lends itself to quick disassembly of the air inducer~ wire cage and filter bags as shown in Fig. 2. ~ihen disassembling the bags for inspection, it is merely necessary to back the nut 6 off several turns, thereby freeing air inducer, wire cage and filter bag so that they may be manually withdrawn.
Our invention provides an arrangement wherein the necassity of having to enter the dirty baghouse to install~ repair and inspect the air inducers, filter bags and wire cages is eliminated. Our invention provides a much more simplified and efficient means of clamping the air inducer1 filter baB and wire cage to the bag support member than heretofore known9 and provides an easily accessible clamping arrangement wherein the need for entering the baghouse is totally eliminated.
The air inducer has permanent securement to the wire cage by a series of spot welds~ where the top of the body of the air inducer extends outwardly into a circular flange at the top of the wire cage.
3o ~131566 The ?rocess previously used which is intended to be improved by resorting to our invention is as follows:-(a) The air inducers are flanged and welded to the bag support wnich makes them unremovable; and (b) The filter tube and wire cage is placed over the air inducer and held in place by a tridon cla~p.
The difficulties and inconveniences involved are:-(a) ~eplacement of the bags necessitates shut down of the complete operation; and (b) The baghouse must be entered to remove the clamp and then remove the filter bag and cage. As there may be 250 of these bags to a unit~ it is a very difficult ~ob to replace them. Inconveniences involved are that the complete operation has to be shut down, and high labor costs.
We have found that these disadvantages may be overcome by our invention of a removable air inducer~ filter bag and wire cage~ the complete unit being removable from the top of the dust collector without entering the baghouse.

-- 11315~

Prior to our invention, it was the practice to have the air induser welded to a permanent bottom support structure provided for attachment both to the bag support member and the wire cage and the filter bag, the wire cage and filter ba8 being held in place to the bottom support structure with a conventional adjustable band clamp or a metal ring. The dis-advantages of this arrangement were that as the air inducer and bottom support structure were welded to the body of the dust collector it was necessary to enter the dirt,y bag house to remove and replace the filter bags and wire cages on each one. It was a'so necessary to remove and replace the conventional adjustable band clamp depending on the size of the unit. This could require as much as a week's time, and the complete operation would have to be shut down in the meantime.

1131S6~;
The hold down arrangment means comprises at least one fastener, said fastener including a vertical threaded stud means secured to said filter bag support member, an apertured plate loosely fitted on said stud means for rotation relative thereto.
Air inducer means a large, hollow, inverted frusto conical body concavely curving outwardly at the base area, the top of the body extending outwardly into a circular flange then vertical upwardly into a short cylindrical portion, the top of which merges into a semicircular outer lip designed so that a permanent support structure is eliminated.
Said filter bag means an elongated porous filter element being open at one end, a flange extending outwardly from said open end and said flange including a substantial rope core means of greater outer dimension than the aperture of said filter element support member. Thus when installing the bag from the top support plate the bag may be dropped through the opening into the area of the bag housing without fear of its falling through.
Each bag is reinforced at its irner surface to prevent it from collapsing to an undesirable degree by a one piece cage member, said cage means comprising a plura-lity of annular sections vertically disposed relative to one another and extending the full lenght of the respective said bag, said section being of wire screen including a plurality of spaced horizontal and vertical rods.
