Abstract
ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
A spray of wash water is delivered to the central area of a windshield wiper blade by an attachment incorporating a pump which is operated by movement of the wiper back and forth about a pivot in the window frame. Air is also delievered to such area by a fitting having a Y-valve for air and/or wash water under the control of the wiper wash button of the auto.

Description
10776~7 SPEC~FICA~ON
This invention relates to wiper~wash devlces, and more particularly to windshield wiper wash attachments.
Schemes are known ~or delivering a spray of wash water through or ad;acent the wiper blade of automobile windshield wipers to assist in cleaning the latter. But such schemes are complicated and therefor expensive~
The main object o~ this invention is to provide an auxiliary attachment ~or such purpose that can be used with existing wind-shield wiper equipment and which iB simple and economical to make and use.
According to the invention a windshield wash and/or a~r attachment is provided which includes a pump that is operated by the conventional action of the wiper, to deIiver the cleaning fluid to a spray located in the central area of wiping to keep the windshieId clean and ~ree of smudging.
In the drawings which illustrate embodlments o~ the in-vention, Fig. 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of one embodiment, Fig. 2 is an enlarged view in section o~ the pump, Fig. 3 is a ~ragmentary perspective view of a detail of I the ~ash/air Y-valve~
Fig. 4 is a similar view thereo~.
The wiper wash attachment illustrated comprises a pump 10 ~i secured to a conventional windshield wiper 12 by a flexible clamp 14. The pump lO includes a plunger 16 having a rod 18 the outer e o~ whIch cons1sts of an eyelet 20. The eyelet 20 ' ;~;
, ' ~' . `, ' ' ~ ' ,' ~
is connected to the frame 22 of windshield 24 by a pivot pin 26 in spaced relation to the pivot 28 of wiper arm 2~. Thus, as the wiper 12 oscillates conventionally, the pump 10 is operated.
The pump 10 outlet is connected to a flexible tube 30 which del:ivers the so-pumped washing fluid to a spray head 32 in the central area of the action of wiper blade 34. A flexible tube 36 conducts the fluid from the washing fluid container or reservoir 38 of the automobile to an inlet in the pump 10 by ~ay of a one-way flap valve 40.. The tube 36 forms part of a Y-valve 42, the other part of which includes an air tube 44.
Air to the tube 44 is controlled by the wiper wash button, not shown, of the car. Thus, air and/or washing fluid can be sup-plied to the spray head 32 for more efficiently and effectively ass~sting th~ wiper 12 in clean~ng wirldshielc 24.
