Description

The invention relates to a gui~e for the withdrawal of drawers or the like of the kind where there are providedonesupport rail at each side on a fixed structure and one withdrawal rail at each side on the drawer or the like and at least two rollers in a roller carrier in the form of a mobile unit at each side between the withdrawal rail and the support rail taking the vertical forces.
Withdrawal guides of this kind find application for drawers and for working surfaces in modern furniture construction, particularly in the construction of kitchen furniture.
An object of the invention is to simplify the pulling out of drawers and to reduce jamming.
Known drawer guides are generally equipped with rollers, slides, preferably plastic slides a combination of rollers and slides, or freely mobile ball races.
It is an object of the present invention to produce a withdrawal guide of the kind initially mentioned which makes possible a particularly low friction sliding of the supporting rail of the fixed structure and the guide rail on the load-carrying side one on the other and which desirably moreoveryields significant material economies in its manufacture compared to known withdrawal guides.
The invention, at least in its preferred embodiments, enables the drawer or the like with the guide rails to be with-. . . .
drawn as a whole from the support rails on the piece of furniture a~d pushed back in again without complication.
The invention also, at least in i-ts preferred embodi-ments enables smoother operation and better loading capacity to be attained.
This is attained in accordance withthe invention through the fact that each support rail has a pull-out detent for the mobile unit and the mobile unit i~ provided with at least ,-,~, . ' ,':
.

7~3 one controllable stop which when the drawer is pulled out engages in a locking member, e g. cut~out of the running face of the support rail, and secures the mobile unit in the inward direction of the withdrawal guide, and that the support rail has a tipping latch in the frontal zone for the mobile unit and/or the mobile unit is provided with such a device.
Accordingl~, the present invention provides a withdrawal guide for drawers or the like, the drawer having two external sides, for use in a fixed structure having two internal sides comprising: a pair of support rails; a pair of guide rails; one of said pairs being placeable on each of the fixed structure sides, respectivel~, and the other of said pairs being disposed on the external sides of the drawer, respectivel~; two mobile units, normall~ disposed in said support rails, respectively, each of said mobile units including at least two rollers, each of said rollers bearing on both a corresponding guide rail and support rail and being supported therebetween so that, vertical forces between said corresponding guide rail and support rail are taken up directl~ by each said roller, said mobile units merely acting as supports to mount the rollers, each of said support rails having a track, each of said tracks being formed with a cut-out, each of said mobile units being formed with at least one controllable stop, said stop being engageable with the cut-out in the track upon removal of the corresponding guide rail when the drawer is pulled out from said fixed structure for preventing said mobile unit from moving in an inward direction, each of said support rails having a frontal zone, a safeguard against tilting of said mobile unit being provided on one of the support rail frontal zone and said mobile unit.
Advantageousl~ the stop is a peg and the cut-out is in the form of a punched hole.
In an embodiment of the invention, pressure means are ~2-r~

7~683 provided on -the moblle unit opposite to the stop corresponding with an abutment of the support rail.
The pressure means is advantageously in the form of a spring flap.
The pressure means can be produced in one piece with the mobile unit, preferably as a plastic injection-moulding.
In another embodiment of the invention the stop is in the form of a spring-loaded slide which is located by a vertical guide onthe mobile unit and has an abutment for the track of ~ ~ -2a-~ 7~L683 the guide rail. Advantageously, in the free position, the slide is secured with a hook behind a protrusion on the mobile unit.
In one embodiment of the invention, ~lat has proved particularly good in practice, the s-top is in the form of a catch carried rotatable on a spindle. Advantageously the catch is plastic injection moulding and has a spring-loading flap which iS supported on the mobile unit.
In order to obtain a large loading capacity for the mobile unit, in a further preferred embodiment of the invention the rollers are supported on their running surfaces in the mobile unit. This is of great significance, especially in the case of plastic rollers, since constituting a support on the hub leads to a reduction of the loading capacity.
In order to simplify smooth engagement of the stop when the drawer is pulled out, it is preferred that at least one of ::
the supporting rollers, preferably the rearward roller located in the vicinity of the stop, is carried in the mobile unit with a vertical clearance.
The invention is further described below by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1 shows a front ~iew of a withdrawal guide in accordance with the in~ention;
Figures 2 to 6 show side views of various embodiments of the withdrawal guide of Figure 1;
Figure 7 shows a view in the direction of arrow A of Figure 2;
Fiyure 8 shows a plan view of the embodiment of Fiyure 2;
~'igure 9 shows a section along line I-I of Figure 3;
Figure 10 shows a plan ~iew of the embodiment of Figure 4, ' ~L07~6~;~3 Flgure 11 shows region A o~ Figure 10; and Fi~ure 12 is an exploded perspective view of a with-drawal guide according to the invention.
Referring to the drawings, a piece of furniture comprises a fixed structure, a drawer and a withdrawal guide.
The withdrawal ~uide shown in the drawings, particular-ly in Figures 1 and 12, comprises a support rail 1 on the fixed structure and a guide rail 4 on the drawer. The support rail 1 may for example be a U-section. The support rail 1 is laid in a groove 2 of a side wall of the fixed structure 3.
In the embodiment shown the guide rail 4 on the drawer has a Z-shaped profile so that it engages under a side-wall 5 of the drawer.
Alternatively the guide rail 4 may have an L-shaped profile.
As can be seen from the drawings, a mobile unit 6, which serves as a support for rollers, is disposed in the U-section of the support rail 1. The mobile unit 6 is advantageously a plastic injection moulding. Rollers 7 are carried in a triangu-lar arrangement in the mobile unit with a roller or group of rollers at each vertex of a triangle and in such a way that the rollers 7 run on a supporting track 8 of the support rail 1 at two points, while a thlrd roller 7 or a third group of rollers 7 is located adjacent an upper horizontal track 9 o~ the support rail 1.
When the dra~er is closed a running track 10 of the gu1de rail 4 is pushed into the mobile unit 6 in such a way that the running track 10 bears upon the two lower rollers 7 or groups of rollers, while the third and relative to the depth of the piece of furniture middle roller 7 or yroup of rollers is supported on the runn~ng track 10.
Thus the guide rail 4, and with it the drawer, are $~ ~~~ .

held in the support rail 1 secure against tipping.
If the drawer, and with it the guide rail 4, are pulled out in the direction of arrow A from the piece of ~urniture, then the free mobile unit 6 is moved with the drawer.

~ 3 In the embodiment shown in Figure 2, i.n the forward zone flaps 11, injection-moulded in one piece with the mobile unit 6, come to lie under an abutment 12 o~ the support rail 1.
The abutment 12 is positioned on the free edge of the upper horizontal track 9 of the support rail 1 and forms a lateral check against tipping for the mobile unit 6 when the drawer has been pulled out.
The abutment 12 prevents the mobile unit 6 being pulled completely out of the support rail 1 and also prevents the unit . tipping over when the drawer is pulled right out. This tipping or tilting would otherwise tend to occur because the mobile unit 6 is normally retained within the U-shaped support rail 1 by means :
of the guide rail 4. If the guide rail 4 is removed, as occurs when the drawer is completely pulled out, there would be hothing to prevent the mobile unit 6 from tipping over sideways out of the U-shaped rail 1. This would mean that the drawer could not be re-inserted into the guide without manually re-positioning the mobile 6 in the support rail 1 and holding it there until the drawer had been inserted sufficiently for the guide rail ~ to `
retain once again the~rimobile unit 6 in position A.
The mobile unit 6 differs from the usual central rails ~` of Xnown differential withdrawal assemblies in that it transmits no ~orces and acts only as a roller cage for the rollers 7. Con-squently it is advantageous i~ the mobile unit 6 remains wholly within the support rail 1 even when the drawer is pulled completely out.
: If in the embodiment of Figure 2, ~he drawer is pulled completely out, the flap 11 of the mobile unit 6 i5 pressed down-: wards and a peg 13 forming a stop i8 pressed into a cut-out lL~ of the supporting track 8. The~imobile unit 6 is thus held in position in the support rail 1 and the abutment 12 prevents i-t falling out even when the lateral guidance of the drawer is absent.

:~ ' ~ -5-.~ 33 It has -to be particularly emphasized -that through the checking of the mobile uni-t 6 not only is the mobile unit secured in the withdrawal direction, that in -the embodiment would already be effected by the abutment 12, but also in the insertion direction.
It thus remains in the vicinity of the tilt check, which is formed by the abutment 12.
If in the case of the embodiment of Figures 3, 5, 6 and 9, the guide rail 4 is pulled further out, thus taken out of the mobile unit 6, then the running track lO is also pulled .~:

-Sa-,- : . -:'' .,, -, . ' ' , , 7~.6~33 forward under a slide abutment 15 of a slide 16.
The slide 16, which constitutes a stop for the mobile unit 6, can then be pressed into the cut-out 14 in the support track 8 of the support rail 1 by the spring 17 or by the end of the support track 10, if the guide rail 4 is slightly tilted in the direction of the arrow C (Figure 5).
The mobile unit 6 is thus fixed in relation to its running direction with the guide rail 4 pulled out, remains in the position shown in Figure 6 and is consequently secured against tipping out of the support rail 1 through the abutment 12, behind which a wall 6' oE the mobile unit 6 is pushed.
When the guide rail 4 is pushed into the mobile unit 6 the slide 16 is lifted by the squared end 18 of the running track 10 (through the slide abutment 15) and the mobile unit 6 is released.
Sothat there is not constant friction of the slide abutment 15 on the running track 10 when the drawer is moved, a protrusion 19 is formed on the mobile unit 6, behind which in the lifted state a hook 20 engages the slide 16. The slide 16 is also guided in guides 21 of the mobile unit 6.
In the case of the embodiment shown in Figures 4, 10 and 11, the securing of the mobile unit 6 is effected by a latch 22. The latch 22 is carried on a spindle 23 on the mobile unit 6 and has a spring part 24 which bears against a lug 25 on the mobile unit 6.
`~ The latch 22 and the spring part 24 are preferably -~ plastic injection mouldings. The latch 22 is provided with a peg 26 at one end. The peg 26, in the locking position, enters ;~ into a cut-out 14' in the upper horizontal track 9 of the support rail 1 (Figure 4 shows the latch completely).
Thus the mobile unit 6 is bolted in the same way as with the other embodiments and secured against movement. The , .

.

tilt check for the mobile unit 6 i5 constituted by the abutments 12, 12' behind which the wall 6' of the mobile unit 6 is pushed and by the peg 26.
If the guide rail 4 is pushed into the mobile unit 6, it lifts with its squared end 18 the other end of the latch 22, constituted as abutment 3'. In order to simplify the pushing in, the guide rail 4 is tipped under the latch 22 when pushed in.
When the drawer is run in the latch 22 is held in the position shown in broken line in Figure 4. The mobile unit can thus be pushed freely.
In order to obtain of running lateral aligning rollers 27 are provided each of which rotates about an axis which is directed normally to the axes of the running rollers 7.
The aligning rollers 27 run on a vertical track 1' of the support rail 1 and on a vertical track 4' of the guide rail 4. The rollers 27 may for example be carried in a manner known per se on normal axesin the mobile unit 6, or they may only be secured against falling out by spigots, otherwise only retained at their periphery however. The mobile unit 6 substantially differs from the central rails of known differential withdrawal assemblies in that it does not have any supporting function itself. The transmission of load only takes place via the rollers.
Therefore it generally will be advantageous when the mobile unit remains totally or at least for the most part within the support rail even when the support rail is pulled out.
