Abstract

The subject design is a generally heart-shaped gemstone having two lobes symmetrical along a plane extending from the cleft between the lobes to the bottom of the heart. Each lobe consists of an irregular octagonal table facet positioned at the front of the gem, the girdle of each lobe thereby defining substantially half of the stone's periphery. The lobes are joined at the edges of five facets at the front and the edges of an additional five facets at the rear of each lobe. Each lobe when viewed from the rear has eight generally unequal kite pavilion facets meeting at the culet region. Between any two adjacent kite facets are one or two lower girdle facets. The twelve lower girdle facets are generally of different shapes and sizes. Along the girdle are 15 small equal kite-like facets. Above the girdle are eight star facets contiguous to each of the table facet's edges. Each of six star facets is separated from an adjacent such facet by a single kite facet. Ten upper girdle facets comprise the major portion of each lobe's periphery.
