Abstract
A B S T R A C T
A plug is provided for mounting a blind frame, either solid or hollow, particularly at a position spaced from a wall. The plug consists of a sleeve, with an inner end adapted to be suspended within a wall and an anchoring screw adapted to be inserted into the sleeve. The sleeve has a resiliently compressible expanded outer end which is suitable for engaging the frame to be mounted. The inner end of the sleeve is expanded by an expanding body that is internally threaded for engagement on the anchoring screw.
A plug is provided for mounting a blind frame, either solid or hollow, particularly at a position spaced from a wall. The plug consists of a sleeve, with an inner end adapted to be suspended within a wall and an anchoring screw adapted to be inserted into the sleeve. The sleeve has a resiliently compressible expanded outer end which is suitable for engaging the frame to be mounted. The inner end of the sleeve is expanded by an expanding body that is internally threaded for engagement on the anchoring screw.
Description
This invention relates to a plug for mounting either a solid or a hollow blind frame, or the like, particularly at a position spaced from a wall, and comprising a sleeve, adapted to expand inside a bore in the wall and to project from its surface and a mounting screw or the like adapted to be inserted into the sleeve.
Plugs of the prior art used for the mounting of a blind frame or a hollow body, have a number of shortcomings. With a prior plug of this kind the spacing between the body to be mounted and the wall is altered during the insertion of the fastening screw. Moreover, the connection between the body and the plug is problematical. Finally, the prior art plugs are cumbersome to insert and a post-mounting adjustment of the spacing from the wall is often necessary.
The present invention is thus concerned with a plug which can be inserted in an easy and sufficiently accurate fashion and which affords a good connection between wall and plug on the one hand and between plug and mounted body on the other hand.
According to the present invention there is provided a plug for mounting a blind frame or the like on a wall at a position spaced from the wall, the plug comprising: a plug body in the form of a sleeve with an inner end adapted to be anchored to a wall and an outer end adapted to be fixed to the frame or the like, said outer end including a diametrical slot dividing the outer end into two outwardly divergent portions that are resiliently movable towards one another so as to enable passage of the plug through a hole that is smaller than the maximum diameter of the outer end, each outer end portion having a stepped configuration providing an outwardly facing abutment and a guide projection extending outwardly beyond the abutment such that the abutment may engage behind an inner face of a frame to be mounted with the guide projections extending into a hole therein; and an anchoring screw ex-tending through the plug body for anchoring the inner end to a wall and a frame to the outer end.

A plug of this kind may be inserted into the wall through a blind frame, with the anchoring screw substantially introduced into the sleeve so that the frame will be kept in position between screw head and the abut-ments.
The opening in the sleeve will, at its outer expansible portion, advantageously correspond in compressed condition to at least the outer diameter of the anchoring screw. This ensures good rotatability of the screw, even after the plug has been inserted into a blind frame, or the like. This further permits the plug with the screw in substantially inserted position to be pushed either into or through the mounting frame.

According to the present invention there is provided a plug for mounting a blind frame or the like on a wall at a position spaced from the wall, the plug comprising: a plug body in the form of a sleeve with an inner end adapted to be anchored to a wall and an outer end adapted to be fixed to the frame or the like, said outer end including a diametrical slot dividing the outer end into two outwardly divergent portions that are resiliently movable towards one another so as to enable passage of the plug through a hole that is smaller than the maximum diameter of the outer end, each outer end portion having a stepped configuration providing an outwardly facing abutment and a guide projection extending outwardly beyond the abutment such that the abutment may engage behind an inner face of a frame to be mounted with the guide projections extending into a hole therein; and an anchoring screw ex-tending through the plug body for anchoring the inner end to a wall and a frame to the outer end.

A plug of this kind may be inserted into the wall through a blind frame, with the anchoring screw substantially introduced into the sleeve so that the frame will be kept in position between screw head and the abut-ments.

A plug 1 (Figure 1) includes a sleeve 2 having at its outer and in-ner ends expansible portions 3 and 4. An expanding body 7 provided with an inner thread 6 is adapted to be drawn into the inner end portion 4 by means of a fastening screw 5. This inner end portion 4 is provided with tongues 8 and 9 which are of different lengths and adapted to be radially spread. The ex-panding body 7 has axially offset sloping cam faces 10 and 11 which cooperate with the tongues 8 and 9 respectively.
In the present embodiment two spreading sections, formed by tongues 8 and 9 respectively, are provided in the inner expansible portion 4, in that there are three longer tongues 8 and three shorter tongues 9 alternately dis-posed around portion 4, This results in an axially longer expansible portion 4 which affords a good anchoring in a wall bore 12.
The sloping faces 10 and 11 on the expanding body 7 are constructed in conformance with the different lengths of tongues 8 and 9 and are disposed in axially staggered fashion so that the tongues are spread open at approxi-mately the same time as the expanding body is drawn into portion 4.
The faces 10 for the longer tongues 8 are disposed in an otherwise cylindrical section of the expanding body 7, This cylindrical section extends, at that end of the body 7 which in operational position is remote from the inner end 16, into the sloping faces 11 for shorter tongues 9. The groove-like recesses 15, in which the longer tongues 8 engage, prevent any rotation .,. . ~ . .
of the body as it is drawn into the sleeve 2 by the fastening screw 5.
The drawing of the body 7 into the sleeve 2 of the plug is facili-tated by providing the sloping faces 10 and 11 at the outer ends thereof with guide projections extending below the tongues 8 and 9 of sleeve 2 in their ini-tial position.
Figure 5 shows an end elevation of the inner expansible portion 4 and tongues 8 and 9 projecting radially from the outer circumference of the conical body 7.
The aforedescribed configuration of the inner expansible portion 4 provides a good securing of the plug 1 in a bore 12 in a wall, in that even in unfavourable walls 17, i.e. those having hollow spaces, the axially elongate expansible portion formed by means of the offset disposed tongues 8 and 9 guarantee sufficient anchoring. Moreover, a substantial advantage is offered in that the plug 1, once it has been inserted into bore 12, does not change its position when the screw 5 is threaded in. This is of particular importance in the case of either a blind frame or a hollow body 19 to be mounted at a position spaced from the wall. Any post-mounting adjustment in such a case would be cumbersome and time-consuming (Figure 2).
Outer expansible portion 3 is designed to facilitate a simple push-in type of assembly. In relaxed, expanded position two spreadable tongues 20, separated from one another by means of two wedge-shaped axial slots 21 (Figure 4) extend radially slightly beyond the outer circumference of the sleeve 2.
When the expansible portion 3 is pushed through an aperture in a hollow body 25 or the like (Figure 3), the diameter of which aperture approximates that of the sleeve 2, the expansible portion 3 becomes compressed. The rotatability of the anchoring screw 5 remains unaffected by this compressed position. The outer edges 22 of the outer expansible portion 3 are disposed so as to form an abutment face 23 for the inner surface of a hollow body 19 to be attached to the plug in a plane normal to the centre axis of the plug 1. The abutment face 23 has guide projections 24 for engaging the outer bore of a hollow body 19 to .
be mounted. When the tongues 20 have been pushed through an aperture in a hollow body or the like (Figure 4), they spread radially so that their guide projections 24 engage the aperture and abutment face 23 engages the inner face of the hollow body. Wall 25 of hollow body 19 is thus held in place between the head 26 of the screw and the abutment face 23 of the plug 1. When the fastening screw is tightened, the inclined lower surface of the flat head 26 of the screw abuts against projection 24. When the wall of the hollow body and the aperture therein have the proper configuration, the spreading section 20 will be well secured in its operational position (Figure 4).
This type of securing is of particular importance when a blind frame (Figure 2) is used, because it permits a frictional connection between the plug 1 and the blind frame 18. The screw head 26 may be disposed inside the hole 18 of the blind frame, thereby permitting an invisible mounting.
A similarly advantageous use is feasible in a wooden frame18, because the edges of the tongues 20 may be pressed into the wood so that the frame will be locked in place. The conical face of the screw head 26 acts in that case as an expanding cone ~Figure 2).
In particular the combination of the outer expansible portion 3, as described above and the use of a conical body 7, adapted to be adjusted longi-tudinally of the plug sleeve 2, by means of the screw 5 offer substantial advantages of assembly. It can be carried out in a simple fashion, in that the entire plug unit may be pushed through a bore, permitting the outer abut-ment face 23 to become engaged with the inside face of a hollow body 19 so that the latter, together with the plug unit, can be placed in the proper position relative to a hole 12 in a wall 17. All that is required then is that the screw be tightened in order to hold everything securely. Any spacing of a blind frame, a hollow body, or the like from a wall 17 may be obtained in ad-vantageous fashion.

A plug 1 (Figure 1) includes a sleeve 2 having at its outer and in-ner ends expansible portions 3 and 4. An expanding body 7 provided with an inner thread 6 is adapted to be drawn into the inner end portion 4 by means of a fastening screw 5. This inner end portion 4 is provided with tongues 8 and 9 which are of different lengths and adapted to be radially spread. The ex-panding body 7 has axially offset sloping cam faces 10 and 11 which cooperate with the tongues 8 and 9 respectively.
In the present embodiment two spreading sections, formed by tongues 8 and 9 respectively, are provided in the inner expansible portion 4, in that there are three longer tongues 8 and three shorter tongues 9 alternately dis-posed around portion 4, This results in an axially longer expansible portion 4 which affords a good anchoring in a wall bore 12.
The sloping faces 10 and 11 on the expanding body 7 are constructed in conformance with the different lengths of tongues 8 and 9 and are disposed in axially staggered fashion so that the tongues are spread open at approxi-mately the same time as the expanding body is drawn into portion 4.
The faces 10 for the longer tongues 8 are disposed in an otherwise cylindrical section of the expanding body 7, This cylindrical section extends, at that end of the body 7 which in operational position is remote from the inner end 16, into the sloping faces 11 for shorter tongues 9. of the body as it is drawn into the sleeve 2 by the fastening screw 5.
The drawing of the body 7 into the sleeve 2 of the plug is facili-tated by providing the sloping faces 10 and 11 at the outer ends thereof with guide projections extending below the tongues 8 and 9 of sleeve 2 in their ini-tial position.
Figure 5 shows an end elevation of the inner expansible portion 4 and tongues 8 and 9 projecting radially from the outer circumference of the conical body 7.
The aforedescribed configuration of the inner expansible portion 4 provides a good securing of the plug 1 in a bore 12 in a wall, in that even in unfavourable walls 17, i.e. those having hollow spaces, the axially elongate expansible portion formed by means of the offset disposed tongues 8 and 9 guarantee sufficient anchoring. Moreover, a substantial advantage is offered in that the plug 1, once it has been inserted into bore 12, does not change its position when the screw 5 is threaded in. This is of particular importance in the case of either a blind frame or a hollow body 19 to be mounted at a position spaced from the wall. Any post-mounting adjustment in such a case would be cumbersome and time-consuming (Figure 2).
Outer expansible portion 3 is designed to facilitate a simple push-in type of assembly. In relaxed, expanded position two spreadable tongues 20, separated from one another by means of two wedge-shaped axial slots 21 (Figure 4) extend radially slightly beyond the outer circumference of the sleeve 2.
When the expansible portion 3 is pushed through an aperture in a hollow body 25 or the like (Figure 3), the diameter of which aperture approximates that of the sleeve 2, the expansible portion 3 becomes compressed. The rotatability of the anchoring screw 5 remains unaffected by this compressed position. The outer edges 22 of the outer expansible portion 3 are disposed so as to form an abutment face 23 for the inner surface of a hollow body 19 to be attached to the plug in a plane normal to the centre axis of the plug 1. The abutment face 23 has guide projections 24 for engaging the outer bore of a hollow body 19 to .

When the tongues 20 have been pushed through an aperture in a hollow body or the like (Figure 4), they spread radially so that their guide projections 24 engage the aperture and abutment face 23 engages the inner face of the hollow body. Wall 25 of hollow body 19 is thus held in place between the head 26 of the screw and the abutment face 23 of the plug 1. When the fastening screw is tightened, the inclined lower surface of the flat head 26 of the screw abuts against projection 24. When the wall of the hollow body and the aperture therein have the proper configuration, the spreading section 20 will be well secured in its operational position (Figure 4).
This type of securing is of particular importance when a blind frame (Figure 2) is used, because it permits a frictional connection between the plug 1 and the blind frame 18. The screw head 26 may be disposed inside the hole 18 of the blind frame, thereby permitting an invisible mounting.
A similarly advantageous use is feasible in a wooden frame18, because the edges of the tongues 20 may be pressed into the wood so that the frame will be locked in place. The conical face of the screw head 26 acts in that case as an expanding cone ~Figure 2).
In particular the combination of the outer expansible portion 3, as described above and the use of a conical body 7, adapted to be adjusted longi-tudinally of the plug sleeve 2, by means of the screw 5 offer substantial advantages of assembly. It can be carried out in a simple fashion, in that the entire plug unit may be pushed through a bore, permitting the outer abut-ment face 23 to become engaged with the inside face of a hollow body 19 so that the latter, together with the plug unit, can be placed in the proper position relative to a hole 12 in a wall 17. All that is required then is that the screw be tightened in order to hold everything securely. Any spacing of a blind frame, a hollow body, or the like from a wall 17 may be obtained in ad-vantageous fashion.

Claims (6)
PROPERTY OR PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:
1. A plug for mounting a blind frame or the like on a wall at a posi-tion spaced from the wall, the plug comprising: a plug body in the form of a sleeve with an inner end adapted to be anchored to a wall and an outer end adapted to be fixed to the frame or the like, said outer end including a diametrical slot dividing the outer end into two outwardly divergent portions that are resiliently movable towards one another so as to enable passage of the plug through a hole that is smaller than the maximum diameter of the outer end, each outer end portion having a stepped configuration providing an outwardly facing abutment and a guide projection extending outwardly beyond the abutment such that the abutment may engage behind an inner face of a frame to be mounted with the guide projections extending into a hole therein;
and an anchoring screw extending through the plug body for anchoring the inner end to a wall and a frame to the outer end.

2. A plug according to claim 1, wherein the guide projections are dis-posed at the edges of the abutments facing the anchoring screw.
3. A plug according to claim 1, characterized in that the inner dia-meter of the plug body is such as to permit passage of the anchoring screw when the outer end is compressed.
4. A plug according to claim 1, 2 or 3, wherein the slots are wedge-shaped.
5. A plug according to claim 1, 2 or 3, wherein the abutments are disposed in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the plug body.
6. A plug according to claim 1, 2 or 3, wherein the head of the anchor-ing screw has a tapered inner face engageable with the outer end of the plug body so as to cause the expansion thereof, and engageable with the frame or the like to hold it in place on the plug.
