Cette introductlon peut se faire, soit de manière continue, c'est-à-dire que l'on additlonne constamment l'agent fluorant ~ l'hexafluorure d'uranium, soit de manière discontinue, c'est-à-dire que l'agent fluorant est introduit periodiquement dans l'hexafluorure d'uranium ;
- soit on pre-traite les circuits de l'installation ~ l'aide de l'agent fluorant avant l'allmentation en hexafluorure d'uranium ;
- de maintenir la stabilité des débits des barrières de diffusion non totalement inertes vis-à-vis de l'hexafluorure d'uranium;
- de regenerer les barrières de diffusion eventuellement bouchées ;
- de conserver, ~ un niveau très bas, la teneur en uranium des dépots ;
~ ~ 4 '~ 627 The subject of the present invention is a method for improve the operation of an isoto- separation facility stings uranium from uranium hexafluoride.
During the operation of separation facilities isotopic of uranium currently used it arises a number of problems. Indeed, we know that hexafluoride uranium is sensitive to reducing agents and hydrolysis.
Now the degradation of uranium hexafluoride by reduction or by hydrolysis leads to the formation of stressed products (under uranium fluoride, uranyl fluoride) which partially clog-the pores of the installation's diffusion barriers and as a result, they affect the permeability. On the other hand, it is known that, given the properties of hexafluoride of uranlum, no material is strictly inert vis- ~ -vis of it.
The invention is precisely for ob ~ and a method providing notable improvements ~ operating a facility of isotopic separation of the uranium, in particular in that it allows both to passivate with respect to uranium hexafluoride ~ es materials used in this installation, to regenerate degraded uranium hexafluoride and avoid clogging of pores of the diffusion barriers of the installation considered.
The process according to the invention is characterized ~ rise especially in that one introduces into the circuits of the installation lation of isotopic separation of at least one fluorinating agent.
By the term "circuit" is meant to define all the organs of the installation in which the hexafluoride circulates uranium (barriers, compressors, pipes, filters, etc.).
According to the method of the invention, the introduction of the fluorinating agent in the installation circuits can be carried out kill in three ways:
- either add the fluorinating agent to the uranlum hexafluoride during the operation of the installation.
This introductlon can be done, either continuously, that is to say that constantly adding the fluorinating agent ~ uranium hexafluoride, either discontinuously, i.e. the fluorinating agent is introduced periodically in uranium hexafluoride;
- either pre-treat the installation circuits ~ using of the fluorinating agent before the hexafluoride supply uranium;
- either, we stop the operation of the installation, we emptying the circuits and introducing the fluorinating aaent. This mode of introduction is more particularly r ~ served at if we notice, during the operation of the installation - -lation, that the pores of the barriers are blocked.
According to the invention, the three modes of introduction 'of the fluorinating agent described above can be used simultaneously or in combination two ~ two.
Among the fluorinating agents which can be used in the process in accordance with the invention, non-limiting examples that may be mentioned:
chlorine trifluoride, bromine trlfluoride, monofluoro-chlorine rure, chlororyl fluoride, pentafluoride bromine, chlorine pentafluoride, fluorine, fluorides oxygen, nitrogen, rare az.
The choice of fluorinating agent (s) and their quantity ~
as low as possible in order to avoid large puraes, are a function of the operating conditions (temperature, pressure, etc ...).
Alnsi, the introduction of at least one fluorinating agent in the isotopic separation installation according to the process of the invention allows:
- to maintain the stability of the flow rates of the diffusion barriers not completely inert towards uranium hexafluoride;
- regenerate the diffusion barriers that may be blocked;
- to keep, ~ a very low level, the uranium content of deposits;
- to keep the uranium in the state of uranium hexafluoride.
We will describe below various examples, given as non limitatlf, implementation of the process intended ~ improve s ~ paration of isotopes of uranium, ob ~ and the invention.
The provisions of realization which will be described about these examples should be considered as part of the invention, having understood that all equivalent provisions may as well be used without departing from the scope of this one.
: 3 1` ~) 4 '~ 627 Example 1 A pilot gas diffusion installation works nant ~ a maximum temperature of 130C and consisting of two independent compressor circuits, each supplying 4 diffusers seurs in parallel (each diffuser containing 100 bars) is supplied with uranium hexafluoride to which chlorine trifluoride at a permanent entry concentration from 100 + 30 vpm. Maintaining the characteristics of the circuit is such as in 2200 hours of operation no variation of Barrier flow and permeability is not noted. The uranium fixation on the material constituting the barriers does not more than 1 g / m2 of diffusing surface. Effectiveness of adding fluorinated with uranium hexafluoride is demontr ~ e by the function-same circuit, under the same temperature conditions, lS pressure in UF6 alone. The results then show a drift flow rate evaluated at 7% in 1000 h of operation and corresponding a decrease in permeability. The return to permeability initial can be obtained by a realimentation ~ la concentra-tion of chlorine trifluoride indicated above.
Example 2 A pilot installation for gas diffusion of the same characteristics as the previous example, operating in same conditions of temperature, pressure, flow, is altered with uranium hexafluoride to which gaseous fluorine is added 25 at a permanent concentration of 200 + 100 vpm. The same results states of constancy of the characteristics are observed.
Of course, the invention is not limited to the realization-described, but on the contrary embraces all variants and in particular the case of any installation of separatlon lsotoplque using a separation process using hexafluo-uranium rure, such as for example centrlfugatlon, the process ~ nozzles.
