Abstract
ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE:
The invention is to a snowshoe harness comprising a member made of elastomeric sheet material. The member has a central foot opening, a rear heel-engaging portion back of the opening, and a front instep-engaging portion in front of the opening. A fastening portion is provided on each side of the instep-engaging portion. The harness is attached flat on the upper surface of a snowshoe solely at the fastening portions.
The invention is also to a showshoe incorporating the above harness.

Description
1~)3976~
~ his inventlon is directed toward an improved snowshoe harness and a snowshoe employing the improved harne~s~
It has long been an objective to provide ~n~wshoes with a harness ~hich is simple to get in and ont of, and which i8 also simple in construction and relatively inexpensive. U.S.
Patents 2,323,9359 G.M. ~intamaki et Al in~entor, issued July 13, 1943; 2~511~087~ AoA~ Villemur i~ventor, issued June 13, 1950; and 3,596,374, W.M. Covington inventor, issued Augu~t 3, 1971 provide examples oi such simple harnesses. These known impli~ied harnes~es are generally constructed ~rom sheet material.
Ho~ever these known harnesses ha~e disadvantages. ~hey generally require a relatively large amount of sheet material.
Nore importantly, the finished9 attached harness pro~ects above the ~urface of the anowshoe. ~his makes it difficult to stack or store a pair or a plurality o~ harnessed snowshoes and wastes ~pace.
.
It i8 therefore a purpose of the present invention to provide an improved snowshoe harne~s which is simple in construc-tion. It is a iurther purpose of the pre~ent inventio~ to provide a snowshoe harnes~ which requires relati~ely little material making it relatively inexpen~ive in oonstruction. It ie ~nother purpose Or the present invention to provide a snowshoe harness whi¢h is easy to use. It iB Btill another purpose of the present invention to provide a snowshoe harness which ia ~lat and compact when mounted on the snowæhoe thereby taking up little space.
~ he present invention provides a ~nowshoe harness wh~ch comprises a member Or elastomer1c sheet material~ The member normally lie8 ilat to the top sur~ace of a ~now~hoe and yet i~ so constructed and attached that a person can readily ~lip his ~oot through a~ opening in the member and bet~een the member and snowshoe to don the harnes~.

Claims (2)
1. A snowshoe harness comprising a member of elastomeric sheet material, substantially in the shape of an isosceles triangle when in flat condition, the sheet member having a generally central rectangular foot opening with its longitudinal axis disposed along a bisector of the angle formed by the one corner portion of the triangular member, which is not equal angularly to the two remaining corner portions, a rear heel-engaging and handling tab portion in the sheet member in the back of said opening and defined by said one corner portion, a front instep-engaging portion defined by the portion of said sheet member intermediate the other two corner portions and located at the front of the opening, said other two corner portions constituting fastening portions on each side of the instep-engaging portion, each fastening portion having perforations extending through the sheet member, and cord means threaded through the perforations and adapted to be tied about the webbing of the snowshoe to adjustably maintain said fastening portions flat against said webbing.
2, A harness as claimed in claim 1, wherein a reinforcement patch of sheet material is attached to each fastening portion of the sheet member.
