Description
Relatório Descritivo da Patente de Invenção para "EMBALA- GEM COM INDICAÇÃO DE VIOLAÇÃO, FECHAMENTO E RECIPIENTE PARA TAL EMBALAGEM".Report of the Invention Patent for "PACKAGING OF INFRINGEMENT, CLOSURE AND CONTAINER FOR SUCH PACKAGING".
Antecedentes e Sumário da Descrição 10 Muitas embalagens de preenchimento asséptico, tais como em-The present invention relates to a tamper-evident package 5 and a closure and a container for such a package in which the closure and the container are constructed such that the tamper indicating mechanism is activated prior to tampering. loss of sealing hitch between closure and container neck trim. Background and Summary of Description 10 Many aseptic filler packages, such as packaging
Dairy products are fitted with a metal foil seal along the end of the container neck finish before the closure is applied to the neck finish. This foil seal functions both to seal the package during shipping, storage and handling, and to provide an indication that the package has been opened when the foil seal has been broken or removed. However, there is a desire to eliminate the cost associated with the provision of this foil seal and the inconvenience of requiring the consumer to remove the foil seal. The present disclosure is directed to a tamper-evident package and a closure and container for such a package, in which the closure and the container are constructed, such that a tamper-indicating mechanism in the closure. be activated prior to loss of sealing engagement between closure and container neck finish.
A presente descrição incorpora inúmeros aspectos que podemThis description incorporates a number of aspects that may
ser implementados separadamente ou em combinação uns com os outros.be implemented separately or in combination with each other.
A tamper-evident package according to one aspect of the present disclosure includes a container having an open-ended neck finish, at least one outer thread segment, and first and second angularly ratchet tooth assemblies. spaced in opposing arrays diametrically spaced from the open end of the neck trim. A closure has a base wall with an annular skirt and at least one inner thread segment in the skirt for engagement with the outer thread segment in the container neck finish to secure the closure to the container. A circumferential array of angularly spaced resilient flexible ratchet vanes extends counterclockwise from an inner surface of the violation band at an angle to such an inner surface. A resilient flexible sealing liner is provided on the base wall within the skirt and has an annular surface facing radially outwardly toward the skirt and axially away from the base wall. The ratchet vanes are resiliently flexed through the ratchet teeth radially outwardly toward the tamper band during clockwise application of closure to container neck finish and contiguous to contiguous faces clockwise orientations on the ratchet teeth to resist counter-clockwise unscrewing of the closure from the neck trim so that removal of the closure from the neck trim separates frangibly against tampering. Resilient engagement of the liner surface with the open end of the container neck trim occurs so that the strip is separated from the skirt prior to the loss of the sealing engagement between said liner and the open end of the trim. neck.
The open end of the neck trim preferably has a radially inwardly extending compensating flange which can be flexible, resilient and axially deformed inwardly through engagement with the liner surface. Resilient engagement of the liner surface with the trim flange occurs so that the tamper band is separated from the skirt before the sealing engagement between the liner and the trim flange is lost. The ratchet vanes preferably extend from an inner surface of the tamper strip over an inner surface of the closing skirt and frangibly connect the tamper strip to the skirt. Each ratchet tooth of each assembly in the container neck finish is preferably diametrically opposed to a ratchet tooth associated with the opposite assembly, so that all ratchet teeth are simultaneously engaged by the ratchet vanes in the closing skirt. The resilient flexible liner preferably includes a barrier material resistant to the migration of gases, water vapor and / or flavorants through the liner.

Figures 1-2 illustrate a package 20 according to an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure. The package 20 includes a closure 22 applied to the neck finish 24 of a container 15 26. The container 26 is illustrated in more detail in figures 3-7. The typically cylindrical neck finish 24 has one or more outer thread segments 28. The first and second sets 30,32 of angularly spaced ratchet teeth 34 are in diametrically opposed arrays at the neck finish 24 on one side of the 20 thread segments 28 away from the open upper end of the neck trim. (Directional words such as "upper" and "lower" are used by way of description and are not limited to the vertical orientation of the package, container and closure illustrated, for example, in Figures 1, 3 and 10. Directional words such as "diametral" or "circumferential" are employed by way of description and are not limited with respect to the geometry axis of the container neck trim and / or the closing skirt as described. The term "thread segment" is used in its broad sense to include both partial and full helical threads and both continuous and interrupted threads. Ratchet teeth 34 extend radially outwardly from an outer protrusion 33, which preferably extends completely around the neck trim. The protrusion 33 and ratchet teeth 34 may be solid as shown or hollow. Each ratchet tooth 34 has a counterclockwise facing surface 35 and a contiguous surface facing clockwise 36. The ratchet teeth 34 may be identical but preferably They are not identical to facilitate the removal of container neck finish 24 from their forming mold.
Container 26, which includes neck trim 24, is preferably formed in an extrusion molding operation and above, as described, for example, in detail in U.S. Patent 6,533,366 referred to above. During such container fabrication, a trim flange 38 is formed at the open end of the container neck trim during a post-mold trim operation by means of a suitable or similar blade to separate the container neck trim from a fully formed discard (moil) or other container. 15 This compensating operation forms a compensated surface 40 (Figure 5A) where there is no trace caused by mold incompatibility or the like during the molding operation. The offset surface 40, which is annular (Figure 4) and extends around the open end of the container neck trim may be in a plane perpendicular to the geometric axis of the container neck trim as shown in Figure 5A or it may be a tapered surface extending up or down relative to the container neck finish, particularly after the neck finish and trim flange have cooled after the trim operation. By way of example only, the compensated surface 40 may be nominally perpendicular to the geometric axis of the neck trim, as noted, and subsurface 41 (Figure 5A) of the compensating flange 38 may be at a nominal angle of 45 °. on the geometric axis of the neck trim. The container 26 may be made from any suitable material, such as a polyethylene. Depending on the geometry of the trim flange 38, the trim flange may be relatively rigid or may be flexible and resilient. Closure 22 is illustrated in detail in Figures 8 and 10-15. Closure 22 includes a one-piece housing 42 of compression molded or injection molded plastic construction, such as, for example, polypropylene. The housing 42 has a base wall 44 and an annular skirt 46. The illustrated skirt 46 extends from the periphery of the base wall 44 in the exemplary embodiment of the disclosure. However, in other embodiments of the disclosure, there may be an additional skirt radially disposed out of skirt 46 to adapt the sidewall contour of the container to which the closure will be applied. One or more 10-thread internal segments 48 are provided on the inner surface of skirt 46. A tamper strip 50 is frangibly connected to skirt 46 of closure housing 42. In housing 42, as molded (Figures 10-15), the tamper strip 50 preferably forms an integral axial extension from the end of the skirt 46 away from the base wall 44. The tamper strip 50 separates from the skirt 46 as will be described to indicate that the package has been opened. In the exemplary embodiment of the description, this lane separation is concluded by the fact that lane 50 completely separates from skirt 46. However, the violation lane separation may be a partial separation, as described, for example,. U.S. Patent 4,432,461, 5,295,600 or 6,053,344 and are still within the scope of the present disclosure.
A circumferential array of angularly spaced resilient flexible ratchet vanes 52 extends from the inner surface of the tamper band 50. Ratchet vanes 52 are preferably nominally flat as they are molded and extended anti-clockwise. - clockwise at an angle on the inner surface of the strip 50 as viewed from above (or clockwise when viewed from below in Figures 11 and 12). Ratchet vanes 52 are preferably of equal angular spacing around the inner surface of the violation band 50. In the illustrated exemplary embodiment of the description, there are eighteen ratchet vanes 52 at equal angular spacings of 20 ° around the the inner surface of the breach strip 50 and the contiguous spaces 36 (Figures 4, 6 and 7) of the ratchet teeth 34 are preferably at equal angular spacing of 20 °. Each ratchet vane 52 preferably extends axially from the inner surface of the strip 50 over the inner surface of the skirt 46. As best seen in Figure 8, the skirt 46 5 has an inner protrusion 53. The ratchet extends integrally along the inner surface of the strip 50 and skirt 46 and is integrally joined to the protrusion 53. The ratchet vanes 52 preferably do not extend all the way to the free edge of the strip 50. The skirt 46 is preferably marked along line 54 in FIGS. 1 and 8, particularly at the location of the cut line 12-12 in FIG. 10, following the wrapper molding operation. This marking extends through the integral connection of the strip 50 to the skirt 46 so that the strip 50 is frangibly connected to the skirt 46 by several ratchet vanes 52. The extension of the ratchet vanes on skirt 46 increases the stability of the 15 ratchet vanes and the use of the ratchet vanes as the frangible connection on skirt 46 eliminates the need for separately molded guides. As an alternative, the strip 50 may be detached from skirt 46 and connected to skirt 46 by ratchet vanes 52 as molded.
After molding of the enclosure 42, and before or after marking along line 54, as preferred, a liner 56 is provided within or subsurface of the base wall closure 44. Liner 56 has a resilient flexible construction. and may be provided in base wall closure 44 in a compression molding liner forming operation or other suitable operation. The liner 56 has a sealing surface 58 which faces radially outwardly toward skirt 46 and axially distal from the base wall 44. Surface 58 in the embodiment of Figures 1 and 8 is a conical surface having, for example, a an angle of about 62 ° on the skirt axis 46. Figure 9 illustrates another exemplary embodiment wherein the sealing surface 58a of liner 56a is at an angle of about 86 ° on the skirt skirt geometry. The liner 56 (or 56a) preferably includes a barrier material resistant to the migration of gases, water vapor and / or flavorings through the liner. The liner 56 (or 56a) may be, for example, provided according to the description of U.S. Patent 6,371,318 or U.S. Patent 6,399,170. The liner 56 or 56a extends over the entire subsurface of the closure base 44 used on the surface 58 and preferably radially slightly off the surface 58 as shown.
The closure 22 is applied to the container neck finish 24 by threading the closure over the container neck finish in a clockwise direction as seen from above. Ratchet fins 52 in closure 22 engage shoulder surfaces 35 in ratchet teeth 34 and are resiliently flexed through the ratchet teeth radially outwardly into violation band 50 and closure skirt 46 during such clockwise application from closure to neck finish. Whereas ratchet vanes 52 are preferably flat when molded and are preferably at substantially identical angles to the inner surface of the tamper band 50 when cast, ratchet vanes may bend in non-flat configurations. and / or non-identical angles in the breach range during application to the container neck finish. The spacings and axial dimensions between the container thread segments 28 and the ratchet teeth 34, and between the closing thread segments 48 and the ratchet vanes 52 preferably occur so that the segments threads engage each other as closure is applied to the container before the ratchet vanes engage the ratchet teeth 25. This helps to mount the closure over the container in self-closing equipment. Full application of the closure to the container neck trim provides the compensated surface 40 of the neck trim compensation flange 38 in opposite engagement or adjacent to the sealing surface 58 of liner 56 (or 30 sealing surface 58a of the lining 56a in figure 9). The resilience of the liner 56 occurs so that the compensation flange 38 compresses the liner. The trim flange 38 may be such that the trim flange is resiliently bent inwardly (relative to the container) by engaging the liner 56 during closure application.
When the closure 22 is later turned counterclockwise or in the removal direction relative to the container neck finish 24, the ratchet vanes 52 are engaged with the contiguous faces 36 of the ratchet teeth 34 as illustrated in FIG. Figure 2. Preferred equal angular spacing of contiguous faces 36 and ratchet vanes 52 ensures that all contiguous faces 36 are simultaneously engaged by ratchet vanes 52 as shown in Figure 2. This simultaneous engagement facilitates the rupture or frangible separation of the tamper strip 50 from the closing skirt 46. According to the present description, the resilience of the liner 56 (or 56a) and / or compensating flange 38 occurs such that the tamper strip 50 is separated closing skirt 46 prior to loss of sealing engagement between liner 56 (or 56a) and trim flange 38.
