A fairing for mounting on a cylindrical component which is deployed underwater is disclosed. The fairing has a generally wedge-shaped body (4) that tapers from front to back. The body (4) is mounted on the cylindrical component (8) through a collar (6, 6 ') into which the component is received. The fairing is thus mounted with its front face adjacent to the cylindrical member such that the fairing body assembly and the member can together form a tear profile. The collar allows the fairing to adjust to embryonic conditions by pivoting around the cylindrical component to align with a chain.
