Esta invenção refere-se a composições e a processos úteis na produção de plantas transgênicas. Em particular, a invenção refere-se às seq³ências reguladoras de transcrição do gene da metalotioneína do milho que são úteis para direcionar a expressão de DNAs heterólogos em tecido embrionário de plantas. A invenção também refere-se a cassetes de expressão contendo as seq³ências do promotor e a plantas transgênicas contendo os cassetes de expressão.
