Preferred processes in this invention more specifically use unconventional sequences of adsorbable separation steps to retain certain branched hydrocarbon fractions that are used in additional process steps to produce olefins useful in OXO processes or as alkylating agents for arenes or for other useful purposes in the production of surfactants. Surprisingly, such functions can in fact be derived from effluents from the current production of linear alkylbenzenes.
