A linha característica da impedância da superfície de pele como função da freq³ência de uma tensão alternada elétrica é medida pela aplicação da tensão em um ou vários condutores de eletricidade, que são acoplados com a superfície da pele de modo galvânico ou capacitivo, e pela variação da freq³ência, e comparada com uma linha característica de referência gerada anteriormente. Em caso de concordância ampla desta linha característica, a superfície de pele é reconhecida como pertencendo a um tecido vivo.
