Abstract

"COMPOSTO, E, PROCESSO DE ESTABILIZAçãO DE UM MATERIAL". This invention generally refers to benzocycle-substituted pyrimidines and triazines and their use for protection against degradation by environmental forces, including ultraviolet light, actinic radiation, oxidation, humidity, air pollutants and combinations thereof. The new class of benzocyclo-substituted pyrimidines and triazines comprises a benzocycle attached to the triazine or pyrimidine ring, and preferably an additional ring containing a hydroxyl group, either liver or blocked to form a latent stabilizer, ortho to the point of attachment of the pyrimidine ring or triazine. These materials can, under appropriate circumstances, be linked to formulations comprising coatings, polymers, resins, organic compounds and the like by reacting the bondable functionality with the materials in the formulation. A process for stabilizing a material by incorporating benzocyclo-substituted pyrimidines and triazines is also exposed.
