A process is also provided to detect the presence of H. capsulatum in a sample using a built-in, or two-stage, PCR analysis. The outermost pair of primers, for use in the first stage of the analysis, consists of fungal-specific oligonucleotides; the innermost pair of primers, for use in the second stage, consists of specific oligonucleotides for H. capsulatum.
