Maintaining the descending feed rate of the constant preform, even at high stretch rates, in excess of 20 meters per second, does not adversely affect the stretching process, and is believed to reduce or eliminate oscillation in the control loop. stretching which can cause variations in the shape of the core during fiber formation, resulting in reduced PMD and improved MFD uniformity.
