Abstract

"PROCESSO PARA A REDUçãO DA QUANTIDADE DE áCIDOS CARBOXìLICOS EM CORRENTES DE PETRóLEO". FOR REDUCING THE QUANTITY OF CARBOXYLIC ACIDS IN OIL CHAINS". The invention comprises a process for reducing the amount of carboxylic acids in petroleum streams comprising the steps of (a) adding to said petroleum stream a catalytic agent comprising an oil-soluble or oil-dispersible compound of a metal selected from the group consisting of the metal group VB, VIB, VIIB and VIII, where the amount of metal in said oil stream is at least about 5 ppmp, (b) heating said oil stream with said catalytic agent in a reactor at a temperature of about 400 to about 800 F (about 204.44 to about 426.67 C) and a pressure around atmospheric at about 1000 psig (about 6996.33 kPa) in the substantial absence of hydrogen, and (c) washing the reactor containing said oil stream and said catalytic agent with an inert gas to maintain the combined partial pressure of water and carbon dioxide below 50 psia (344.75 kPa).
