Air or other pressurized fluid is supplied to the pressure chamber to provide air support clearance between the belt and the support during the belt travel. The belt support has a generally flat center section with outer sections that curve or angle upward. Guides are mounted adjacent to the external angle sections. Elongated members are arranged along the length of the belt and between the bottom of each guide and the angled external belt sections. Each elongated member in conjunction with each lower part of the belt guide and support acts as a belt end guide forming a recess that receives the ends of the belt during the belt travel. Each recess directs air from the bottom of the belt up and around the side edge of the belt, through the upper surface of the belt and out of a slotted outlet. The recess helps create pressure against the upper belt surface near the bottom of the guide, thereby minimizing or eliminating belt contact with the lower part of the guide and potential belt wear or damage to the high speed belt path .
