Abstract
"DETECTOR DE MULTI FóTONS DE FUNDO ULTRA BAIXO". Um dispositivo detector de multi fótons de fundo ultra baixo para rádio isótopos (20) tem uma base de cerca de uma contagem por dia, o qual pode detectar uma molécula atómica de material. Dois detectores de fóton de raios gama e raios X opostos, preferencialmente, incluem, cada um, um cristal de cintilação (22) e um tubo foto multiplicador (26). An ultra low background multi-photon detector device for radio isotopes (20) has a base of about one count per day, which can detect an atomic molecule of material. Two opposing gamma-ray and X-ray photon detectors preferably each include a scintillation crystal (22) and a photo multiplier tube (26). Sandwiched between the detectors are a separator (32) and a sample holder (34) for a sample (36) labeled with radio isotopes such as I ^ 125 ^. Each connector converts radio isotope emissions into electrical output pulses in a base (30), whose pulses are then subjected to signal processing to analyze the shape of the pulse, discriminating the coincidence of non-coincident events and quantifying the radio isotopes . Material detectors and components are selected to minimize the base and are protected from external radiation by a composite shield (55). Detectors operating on different principles and sample holders in different configurations can be used. The device can additionally be constructed to resolve and provide images in sets of two-dimensional samples.
