Um sinal iluminado, consistindo de uma fonte de luz, uma lâmina transparente tendo uma sua borda que é montada adjacente à fonte de luz, para receber luz dela, que, em uso, é transmitida ao longo de uma lâmina transparente, uma camada de imagem frontal, que é disposta sobre uma face frontal da lâmina transparente e tem uma superfície reflexiva dirigida para trás e uma camada de imagem traseira que é disposta sobre uma face traseira da lâmina transparente, substancialmente em alinhamento com a camada de imagem frontal, por meio do que, em uso, a luz é refletida da superfície reflexiva sobre a camada de imagem traseira, para, desse modo, aumentar a iluminação da camada de imagem traseira.
