A plant promoter capable of inducing the expression specifically at the site and time wherein the reconstitution of plant cell wall xyloglucan is necessary, namely, a plant promoter originating in a gene which encodes an endo-xyloglucan transferase or a gene which encodes a substance having a function equivalent thereto; and a method for altering the function of a plant with the use of the plant promoter and a method for cloning the plant promoter.
