diferenciação de idade de óleos de origem do cretáceo superior terciário. um índice de angiosperma-1 e um índice de angiosperma-2 estão correlacionados com uma idade de uma amostra de hidrocarboneto líquido e podem ser usados para distinguir a idade do óleo do cretáceo superior (100-65 milhões de anos antes do presente ou 100-65 ma bp) vs. paleogeno (65-55 ma bp) vs. eoceno ou mais jovem (<55 ma bp). este método melhora em relação aos métodos existentes que não podem distinguir a idade do óleo entre o cretáceo superior e o mioceno (cerca de 100-5 ma bp).
