The product is used in the fabrication of bimetallic thermocouple strips for consumer goods, metrology, automatic controls, and instrument building. The product offers increased temperature sensitivity, good coupling between the contact surfaces, and reduced cost. It consists of a passive layer of nickel-free nitrogen steel and an active layer of zinc alloy. The steel has the following percentage concentrations: Chromium 1 to 18 percent, nitrogen 0.1-0.3 percent; and the zinc alloy contains between 1 and 27 percent, and, if desired, between 1 and 6 percent copper and magnesium, and up to 0.04 percent magnesium.
