Abstract

The material is used for the production of bullet-proof armoured items, e.g. helmets, vests, etc. It ensures blocking of armour-piercing bullets fired at point-blank and makes it possible to block many bullets over a small area without destruction of the material. The material has low specific gravity. It consists of face and rear parts, the face part consisting of aluminium alloy lamellas covered on both surfaces with an electrochemically formed aluminium oxide (alumina) coating 80-200 microns thick. The rear part consists of high molecular weight PE with molecular mass 1 - 3 millions reinforced with inorganic material fibres in a quantity of 0.1 - 6.0 percent. The aluminium alloy lamellas are 1-15 pieces. The reinforcing fibres are made of glass, carbon, boron or metals.
