Abstract
The method applies to the textile, woodworking, leather and fur dressing industry, construction and everyday-life. It proceeds as follows: When the material is wet, it is impregnated with a solution consisting of (in percent): 0.01-20 iron salt, 0.01-20 tannic substances and 0.01-5 gallic acid. Then it is processed with a 1-5 percent alkaline solution. The duration of each of the two procedures is from 1 to 30 minutes within a temperature interval running from room temperature to the boiling temperature of the solution. The combination of the two procedures is repeated until the desired shade of the colour is reached. The iron salt can be during the first procedure a salt of di or trivalent iron, preferably iron sulphate. As tannic substances are used any type of tanids, hydrolysable and mixed products in solid or powder form, as well as water extracts. As an alkaline reagent is used, a water solution of sodium hydrogen carbonate, sodium carbonate, ammonia or ammonia and silver nitrate, preferably sodium bicarbonate.
