Accessory for printing machine cylinder.
The invention relates to an accessory for a printing machine cylinder and, more particularly, an accessory for stamping heated metal sheets wound around a printing machine cylinder and, more particularly, a cylinder intended for machines. Heidelberg printing house.
In accordance with the invention, an accessory is obtained for a printing machine capable of stamping a heated sheet of metal, an accessory which comprises
- a heated receptacle intended to receive a stamp having a pattern to be applied to a sheet to be stamped made of any material,
- a feed roller for a continuous sheet of stamping material,
- A roller for recovering said sheet after use, the sheets being conveyed above the heated receptacle, located between the supply and recovery rollers, to receive the desired stamping on the sheet of material.
We will better understand the object of this invention from the following description and based on an example, while referring to the attached sketches:
Fig. 1 shows a schematic perspective of a printing machine cylinder to which a stamping accessory for heated metal sheets has been attached according to the characteristics of our invention.
Fig. 2 shows a perspective on a larger scale of the accessory for stamping heated metal sheets,
Fig. 3 shows us a perspective of detail of the accessory presented in fig. 2,
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the perspective of detail presented in FIG. 3,
Fig. 5 is a side view of the accessory in operation,
Figures 6 (a) and 6 (b) are diagrammatic views, illustrating the operating mode of the accessory and, finally,
FIGS. 7 (a) and 7 (b) are perspectives on a photographic frame which has a stamping of heated metal sheets applied to it by means of the accessory presented in FIGS. 1 to 5.
Referring to the drawings and Figures 1 to 5 above, we realize that the invention consists of a cylinder for printing machine, generally indicated by the reference numeral 1 and being, in this case, a modified cylinder of machine d Heidelberg printing house, the modification of which consists in adding an accessory for stamping heated metal sheets, according to the criteria of the invention here described and generally indicated [deg.] by the reference numeral 2.
Accessory 2 comprises a heated receptacle 5 which, in this case, is subdivided into three zones 6, 7 and 8, each having a respective stamp 9, 10 and 11, stamps having a different pattern to be applied to the sheet of material * The temperature of each of these zones 6, 7 and 8 can be modified so as to correspond to the necessities that imply, in use, each particular stamp 9, 10 and 11 respectively. For example, when using the stamp
10, of larger dimensions, in zone 7, zone generally requiring a higher temperature to heat the stamp than would be required, for example, by the smaller stamps 9 and 11 to be placed in zones 6 and 8 respectively.
Each of the zones 6, 7 and 8 is heated directly by a heating element (not illustrated) which extends in a zigzag through the zone and which is electrically supplied by the cables 12.
The accessory 2 is used for hot stamping sheets of metal so as to form, for example, cardboard photographic frames 4 as shown in Figures 7 (a) and 7 (b) which show models of stamped gold foil 4A.
The sheets which are to be stamped on plates of various materials are led by a feed roller 15, mounted inside the machine 1 and serving as a replacement for one of the conventional printing rollers, usually used in this field. machine type. The continuous sheet of metal 16 is thus led from the supply roller 15 above the stamps 9, 10 and 11 in the direction of a recovery roller 17. This recovery roller 17 comprises a pair of compression rollers 18 and 19 between which the sheet 16 is conveyed, by winding, to a recovery roller 20 situated in front of the compression rollers 18 and 19. The rollers 18, 19 and
20 are rotatable and supported by bearing bearings (not shown), located in side plates 21 and 22.
The recovery roller 20 is actuated by a system comprising an electric motor 25, a steering mechanism
26, a shaft 27 actuated by the gear 26, which, in turn, actuates the recovery roller 20 via a chain and a serrated mechanism comprising, itself, a sprocket 28 securely mounted on the shaft 27, a free sprocket 29 mounted on the shaft of the roller 20 as well as a chain 30 wound around the sprockets 28 and 29.
The control elements intended to control the operation of the recovery roller 20 are characterized here as a clutch disc 35 having a central orifice 36 whose diameter is slightly larger than that of the shaft 27, on which the disc is mounted. 65533; freely. The elements, which exert a traction on the disc 35 at its center, carry out this maneuver so as to engage the shaft 27 and in such a way that it does not rotate and the recovery roller does not This does not also include an extension arm 37 which extends outward radially from the disc 35 and ends in an end section 38, located next to the solenoid 39.
The control elements check the number of revolutions perpetrated by the shaft 27 and, therefore, control the tensioner of the roller 20; these elements are characterized in the case which concerns us by a control disc 45 fixed to the shaft 27. The control disc 45 has a plurality of holes 46 arranged in circumference around its surface and separated from each other around the periphery of the disc 45. A transmitter 47 and a sensor
48, hooked on either side of this disc 45, serve to control the number of holes which pass between the emitter 47 and the sensor 48 and, consequently, the rotations of the shaft 27 and of the roller 20.
The information from the transmitter 47 and the sensor 48 is transmitted to a control unit 50 via cables
51 and, when the sheet recovery roller 20 has taken hold of the desired quantity of sheet 16, a signal passes through the control unit 50 and is sent towards the solenoid 39 so as to extend the arm 37 and lock the clutch disc
35 on the shaft 27, thereby preventing any subsequent rotation of the sheet recovery roller 20.
In order to give more details and to refer more particularly to FIGS. 6 (a) and 6 (b), let us say that the control disc 45 and the clutch disc 35 are used to check
the movement of the sheet 16 so as to ensure use
e
maximum of the sheet for a minimum amount of waste.
For a particular series of stamp models on sheets of various materials, such as the stamping of type 4 (a) models on photographic frames 4, the control unit was initially pre-programmed for the introduction of information to the control unit 50. Thus, for example, the user may wish to stamp two bars 55 (a) and 55 (b) of the sheet 16, distinctly separated from each other, on the whole sheets of various materials.
Instead of using sheet 16, as shown in the illustration in Figure 6 (b), to stamp two designs
55 (a) and 55 (b) on a single sheet 4 and then highlight sheet 16 so that the two models are stamped on the next sheet 4 leaving large unusual spaces and that is used l the control unit 50 and that the sheet 16 only advances a short distance when it has been stamped in a sheet 4 of any material; distance D is then selected to allow maximum use of the sheet in the spaces between models 55 (a) and 55 (b). In this specific case, there follow four slight advances, using almost the entire length X of the sheet. The sheet 16 is then pushed forward over a distance X and then this operation is repeated.
In use, the sheets 4 of various materials on which the stamp models must be printed are deposited in a feeder (not illustrated) of the machine 1. The desired model is then placed in zones 6, 7 or 8, using stamps 9, 10 and
11 and the temperature of zones 6, 7 and 8 is adjusted to the desired level so as to obtain good stamping quality. The sheet 16 then travels from the feed roller 15, passing over the stamps 9, 10 and 11 and between the compression rollers 18 and 19 in the direction of the recovery roller 20. The most suitable arrangement of the sheet 16 is then determined by the control unit 50, described above, as soon as the machine is started. Sheet 4, blank, is removed from the feeder and carried by the cylindrical roller 60 of the machine
1. While this work is taking place, the receptacle 5 penetrates inside the machine thanks to a latching mechanism 65. The cylinder 60 then performs a rotation which causes the compression of the sheets 4 of various materials against the sheet 16 and the stamps 9, 10 and 11; the sheet 16 is then heated and stamped against the sheet 4 according to the desired model. The roller 60 continues its rotation so as to evacuate the stamped sheet 4 out of the machine. During this second rotation of the cylinder 60, the receptacle 5 is expelled from the interior of the machine by a return movement during which it actuates a microswitch which ignites the motor 25 which, in turn, actuates the recovery roller 20 which in turn advances the sheet
16 and positions the sheet of the following stamping.
The rotation of the roller 20 is controlled by the control disc via the transmitter 47 and the sensor 48 and, when the roller 20 has caused the rotation of a pre-selected quantity of sheets, the control unit 50 actuates the solenoid 39 which extends the arm 37 towards the interior of the machine and blocks the clutch disc 35 on the shaft 27. The operation is then repeated until the stamping has been carried out on a preselected number of sheets 4.
The invention is characterized in that a relatively simple construction accessory can be easily used for the purpose of transforming a printing machine such as the Heidelberg cylinder printing machine into a machine capable of carrying out hot stamping. The cost of such an accessory is much lower than the cost of a stamping machine. In addition, the accessory does not disturb the operation of the printing machine because it can be easily transformed back into a conventional printing machine with rotary cylinder, just by using a cold receptacle rather than heated and removing the feed and recovery rollers. The accessory feed roller is then replaced by a conventional printing roller.
By modifying the printing machine as described above, it has been found that it is possible to use a roll of material up to 1000 m in length, so that the machine can operate continuously for long periods without too often removing an exhausted roll and inserting one
