GEVORMD VOORWERP OMVATTENDE CELLULOSEVEZELS
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
(bijv. fosfor-of sulfagips).
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

FORMED ARTICLE CONTAINING CELLULOSE FIBERS
The invention relates to a molded article, e.g. a plate or container comprising paper sludge cellulose fibers delivered from wastewater treatment plants of papermaking.
Today, efforts are being made in many areas to recycle waste with the aim of saving raw materials on the one hand and avoiding environmental nuisance on the other.
Wastewater from paper production is, as is known, treated and filtered before discharge. Relatively large amounts of paper sludge are separated out during this process. To date, this paper sludge has been dumped as a worthless waste product, which entails considerable transport costs and for which it is becoming increasingly difficult to find suitable landfills. Therefore, attempts to valorise this paper sludge are very welcome.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
It is known to recycle waste paper and rags by grinding and pulverizing them and mixing them together with suitable additives and binders and processing them into fiber boards by dry or wet route.
These fiber plates have the disadvantage of not having a homogeneous structure and, therefore, of having no uniform physical and mechanical properties, because the paper, respectively. rag fibers cannot be pulverized integrally into very fine and very short fibers.
In the present application it is proposed to provide fiber-containing molded articles such as, for example, fiber plates with homogeneous structure and uniform properties, starting from paper sludge. Paper sludge is therefore here understood to mean the sludge-like substance which is separated from the waste water of the papermaking machine during filtration. This sludge comprises about 20 to 50% wt, often about 30% wt. solid particles that are evenly distributed and held up in an aqueous phase.
The solid particles consist in part, e.g., about half by weight, of very short and finely divided cellulose fibers which are entrained through the papermaking screen cloths with the water phase during the wet formation of the paper sheet from the pulp. In addition to the very fine cellulose fibers, the paper screen also entrains an amount of very fine solid particles such as kaolin, lime and insoluble ingredients. Thus, the majority of entrained cellulose fibers will be noticeably shorter and / or finer than the average fiber length in paper since they separate with the filtrate through jade paper screen.
Partly as a result of this separation, the very short and fine fibers in waste water are almost completely individualized. This is an excellent starting point for easily achieving a homogeneous distribution of the cellulose fibers in the products to be manufactured.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Molded articles based on cellulose fibers, such as, for example, fiber boards, usually contain a number of additives and additives that are selected in function of the required properties of the article. Likewise, the molded articles of the invention will comprise adjuvants in addition to cellulose fibers from paper sludge (as defined above). It is characteristic of the invention that the cellulose fibers are homogeneously distributed in the article with a volume content in the sludge state between 20% and 90%.
By the terms "in sludge state" is meant that in the preparation of the pasta to be homogenized and to be formed (and disregarding the added water as a diluent) one to eight parts by volume of dry additives are mixed with two to nine parts by volume of paper sludge (containing fibers , fine solid particles and the associated aqueous phase).
The cellulose fiber ratio t. o. according to the invention, however, additives will always be chosen such that the density of the end product is between 0.2 and kg / dm3.
It is also sometimes recommended to use a small amount of excipients, less than 10% vol. add to the pasta to be formed. These adjuvants can be, for example, fire retardants, fungicides, dyes, water repellents, binders, resins, bond retarders or molding accelerators, foaming agents, etc.
The additives can include certain amounts of fiber: organic, optionally in combination with inorganic. As organic fibers, naturally, paper fibers, wood fibers, sawdust, sisal, synthetic fibers and carbon fibers are eligible. Glass fibers, metal fibers, ceramic fibers and rock wool can be used as inorganic fibers.
Also, additives in the form of porous particles can be added, such as, for example, expanded perlite
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
or vermiculite and foam granules.
In addition, inorganic powders or granules are also eligible as additives. This includes glass beads, SiO2 granules, metal powder, carbon black and mainly lime and gypsum powder, including synthetic plaster. (eg phosphorus or sulfa gypsum).
The final products formed can be plates: flat, corrugated, corrugated, with surface relief, with passages, etc. The final products can also be slats or profiles or containers (also called receptacles or containers) or tubes. Their thickness will vary between approximately 5mm and 25mm.
A special embodiment of the invention relates to thermally insulating plates or containers in which in addition to the cellulose fibers in the sludge state and within the aforementioned composition limits 30% to 50% volume of expanded perlite or vermiculite are distributed.
The density of these objects will preferably be about 0.3kg / dm3. For example, another embodiment in the same density range includes 15 to 30% vol. Si02 powder and in plate form, for example, can be used as a ceiling covering. If desired, Na2 Si 03 can be added here as an auxiliary substance as a fire-retardant.
For wall panels, in addition to the cellulose fibers, in sludge state 20% to 60% vol. add gypsum powder. Thus, according to the specific ratio of the gypsum allowance, a desired density can be realized between 0.4 and 1 kg / dm3.
The use of all kinds of combinations of additives and auxiliary substances can of course also be considered in order to obtain end products with specific properties.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
Thus, a composition of 15% to 25% vol. cellulose fibers (basic paper sludge) combined with 25% to 35% plaster and the rest of expanded perlite (or vermiculite) can be processed into a wall plate in which hooks, nails and screws can easily be anchored.
The surface of the manufactured plates can be further finished as desired by applying more or less smooth or hard coatings, eg with a decorative relief.
For example, a pure paper sludge layer can be sprayed on to form a textured plaster finish with a more or less grainy appearance. They can also be laminated with other plates, e.g. foam plates, to form layered products with specific strength or insulation characteristics.
The shaped articles according to the invention can be manufactured as follows. The paper sludge that was filtered from the wastewater from papermaking during the purification process of this wastewater is continuously added to a pulper and diluted with water in a ratio depending on the thickness of the plate or object wall to be formed and which is determined experimentally. This diluted suspension is intensely stirred in the pulper with a residence time of a few minutes while adding the desired additives and debited in a buffer silo.
There, the homogenized mixture is constantly agitated by stirring to prevent settling of the solids content. The suspension is continuously fed from there and spread evenly on a vibrating substrate which delivers the mixture to a former. The molding apparatus essentially comprises a permeable, suction base that takes over and continues to pass the spread mixture. This extraction base is a fine filter cloth that extends over fixed vacuum extraction cabinets against its bottom. The uniform extraction action promotes the rapid formation of the fiber sheet, whereby the lower fiber layer on the filter cloth also functions as a filter bed for the fiber mass that falls on top of it.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
The coherent fiber layer exiting the suction section of the former is then slightly pressed or rolled for reinforcement and cut into plates.
These plates then enter the actual cold pressing device and the pressed objects are then fed into a tunnel oven where they are dried very evenly over their entire circumference and surface at a higher temperature for about half an hour. After cooling, the objects are ready for a possible final finish such as painting, cutting, gluing, etc. The oven temperature is well above 100oC on average.
Instead of going from paper sludge with cellulose fibers in a bound water phase, it is also possible to press this sludge in advance, dry it and grind it into powder. This powder can then be dry mixed with the appropriate additives (eg gypsum) and spread evenly on a substrate and. simultaneously or thereafter spray an appropriate amount of water on it to form a more or less coherent layer which is subsequently reinforced by pressing. The pressed objects are then dried and finished.
