(zie fig. 2)
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
(zie fig. 3)
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Applicant of the invention patent: Cotteleer Christin Title: Orthopedic Tricycle from 'Gbtteleer' Description of the Invention: The product, or the invention, is a completely new orthopedic tricycle.
The orthopedic tricycle is a vehicle used by motor handicapped people. The drive is done by the lower limbs. By fixing the foot at 900 in relation to the lower leg, the disabled person gets a beneficial therapy exercise.
In the comparisons mentioned below between the new orthopedic tricycle and the existing models, the advantages and the novelties or inventions will be clearly expressed.
1. In the current state, the handicapped sits directly above the drive (see fig. 1). The seat is therefore always higher than the length of the legs, otherwise the pedals would touch the floor if the leg was stretched. This means that the handicapped must, as it were, on the
EMI1.1
scramble the bicycle, or placed on it by supervisors. With the 'Cotteleer' orthopedic tricycle, the height of the seat is adjusted so that the seat is located under the user's seat at about one third of the body length. This allows the disabled person to settle in the seat by simply lowering.
The seat is adjusted over an axis of 450, so that the height is set at the same time as the distance to the foot control. (see fig. 2)
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
2 .., The current models use the all-round bicycle saddle, so that the disabled user always tilts left and right over the saddle.
With the 'Cotteleer' orthopedic tricycle we use a wide seat that gives stability to the pelvis through full support of the sciatica (the sit bones) and which is shortened at the front so that the legs can move freely for the drive movement.
3 If in the current models the handicapped person cannot stay upright on the bicycle saddle, a pipe structure will be applied that must then keep the body in position. (see fig l) With the new product, the seat has a wide backrest that gives stability to the whole body, so that the arm and leg muscles can relax better and as a result can be used more relaxed for the drive, the brake and the steering system. backrest inclines back a few degrees to better position the center of gravity of the body.
4. Many motor handicapped have to deal with the addition (tilting) of the knees. When alternately bending and stretching the legs for the drive, the knees will collide annoyingly.
In current models of orthopedic tricycles, this is usually counteracted by means of abduction rods. These rods, mounted at right angles to the pedals, have the length of the lower leg, and are tied with a strap just below the knee. In this way, the knees are pulled apart, as it were. The disabled person is unable to fasten or loosen these straps himself.
This must therefore always be done by a supervisor, which nullifies the independent use of the product. (see fig. 3)
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
With the orthopedic tricycle from 'Cotteleer' a system has been developed whereby a volume (abduction bobbin) from under the seat tilts between the legs when sitting down.
(see fig. 4) This volume, which is located just before the crotch between the legs of the disabled person, will then prevent the knees from touching during the driving movement of the legs.
5. On current models, the orthopedic tricycle usually has two rear wheels, one of which is the drive wheel and the steering wheel in the front. Because the drive wheel is not in the axis of the direction of travel, the tricycle will always be
EMI3.1
tending to one particular side .. Also it will be more difficult to turn in one direction than in the other. The double wheels at the back have the additional drawback that the handicapped person often hangs on door jambs e. d There are models with two wheels at the front and one driving wheel at the back, but the two steering wheels give heavy steering, and in both cases the smaller the bend to be taken, the greater the driving force must be. In an extreme case, with the wheels at 90 relative to the direction of travel, neither can move forward or backward.
The 'Cbtteleer' orthopedic tricycle has two separately rotating wheels at the front that only serve for the stability of the product. At the rear, on the central axle, a double drive steering wheel. This means that you can even turn around on site with the wheels at 900, without changing the necessary driving force.
6 Today's orthopedic tricycles always have a central tube structure that connects the front wheel-steering part to the rear wheel-sitting part. The handicapped person always has problems to step over this tube, however low.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The orthopedic tricycle of 'Cotteleer' has an open structure on one side, so that the disabled person can stand in front of the seat without having to take any obstacles.
7 The current models always have a power transmission by means of chain and sprockets.
In the orthopedic tricycle of 'Cottcleer', the driving power is pneumatically transferred from the front drive to the rear drive steering wheel. The tube structure itself serves as a piston casing and liquid pipe. (see fig 5) The tube structure folds vertically between the double rear wheel; In: This section then moves up and down a piston directly connected to a double internally toothed rack that engages two freewheels.
These freewheels transmit the force to the axle of the wheel. This never creates a dead point, and the length of the pedaling movement can be chosen at the front. (See fig. 6) At the front, the pedaling movement is transferred to the piston through a chain of spheres, which can absorb both compressive and tensile forces in the curved tube structure. (see fig. 7) The driving force can be easily controlled by a setting that increases or decreases the diameter of the pipe structure at a specific location. In this case, this adjustment screw is placed in the plastic sphere located above the drive steering wheel, which also contains the rear light and part of the steering gear.
(see fig. 8) &. As mentioned earlier, from a therapeutic point of view it is very important that while using the orthopedic tricycle, the feet remain fixed at 900 in relation to the lower leg, and therefore cannot be screwed
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
during the drive movement. In the current situation, the feet are again tied with straps to the pedals of the bicycle.
(see fig. 9) The pedals themselves are kept horizontal by rather complicated technical systems. Research showed that the negative movement pattern in the motor handicapped increased when pressure came on the ball of the foot. 8- So have "row for the orthopedic tricycle from 'Cotteleer' a foot shell designed where only the heel has a foot plate, and where the sides continue to counteract the screw movement.The bracket over the forefoot serves to prevent the foot from pulling up.
In this foot shell, the handicapped person can follow in and out Be foot shells independently after some practice, sliding in a fixed path, the curved structure, the d6 shape of which has been determined from an in-depth ergonomic study.
("See fig 10 and Front view) 9 '., With the current models, the steering and braking system is simply taken from the bicycle industry, without taking into account the possibilities of the handicapped.
With the 'Cotteleer' orthopedic tricycle, the control of the handlebars and brakes is located at the front of the armrests, because in this position the arms are in the most relaxed state. and brake by pulling back the right sphere. Both spheres are easily adjustable in height. (see front and side view) The entire cabling runs through the pipe structure, so there is no possibility of hurting anywhere.
