<EMI ID=2.1>
- la figure 1 montre en élévation latérale un outil rotatif abrasif suivant l'invention ;
- la figure 2 est une vue gingivale du montage inférieur d'une prothèse dentaire totale; - la figure 3 est une vue en perspective d'un modèle en plâtre;
- la figure 4 illustre le ponçage de la plaque-base à l'aide de l'outil montré à la figure 1 ;
(Figure 4)

Rotary tool for making
The present invention relates to an abrasive rotary tool intended, when making a mobile dental prosthesis made of synthetic resin, to adjust by grinding, the rounded profile of the edge of the bead
of the proximal sublingual area of a lower plate which reconstructs the dental arch of the lower jaw and covers the alveolar bone
in the sublingual area on
a distance substantially equal to one
centimeter and a half on either side of a center line, in the direction of each of the retromolar tubers.
It finds its main application in the making and completion of prosthetic restorations in synthetic resin, for complete toothless in particular according to the method of Professor J. SCHREINEMAKERS and deserves for this reason its place in the laboratories of dental prostheses and the offices of dentists .
A dental prosthesis is only excellent if it carefully reconstructs the initial dental arch. Not only must it restore aesthetics as best as possible, but it must also be comfortable
and adhere enough only to allow the most effective chewing possible and allow perfect phonation without however enclosing the gums or allowing food stuffing. This adhesion is difficult
to be obtained in the lower jaw due to tongue movements.

theoretical approach and a method is described for making a total mobile prosthesis for edentulous patients of at least one of the maxillae. The total absence of teeth, in particular in the lower jaw, forces the specialist to design a prosthesis that rests entirely on the mucous membranes.
The method includes taking an accurate impression with special paste applied to a prefabricated impression tray and making a plaster model which will be used to model a blank for an individual impression tray made of synthetic resin.
Before taking the impression, it may be necessary to perform some surgical procedures such as resection of brakes, bridles, bone ridges, mucous membranes.
The impression is taken under controlled digital pressure from the operator while the patient performs mandibular and lingual movements. This allows the relief of the supporting mucous membranes to be obtained
The impression is used to make a plaster model which will be used to model a blank individual impression tray made of synthetic resin and provided with beads of wax.
To make the individual impression tray,
knead on a board coated with oil, a mixture
of two components, one of which consists of polymethylmethacrylate powder, pigment and an initiator (for example benzoyl peroxide) and a hardener solution, the components being marketed under
the name of KERR-FORMATRA.Y, so as to obtain a malleable paste which is spread in a thin layer having a homogeneous thickness of approximately 2 to 3 millimeters. The pasty layer is applied like a plasticine, palpating it with your fingers against the plaster model so as to cover the alveolar bone. This constitutes the base plate of the individual impression tray from which the final prosthesis will be produced.
On both sides of the crest of the gum, we indicate with a soft pencil, the lingual limit line which will delimit the bead.
The bead must have a softened rim at the height of the sublingual line in contact with the genioglossus muscle and the intralingual line in contact
with the mylohyoideus muscle. It is therefore necessary, by successive touch-ups, to adjust the thickness of the base plate and to soften the sub- and intralingual beads
in contact with the aforementioned genioglossal and mylohyoideus muscles.
According to known techniques, we then use
a rotary diamond tool of types 9801-9369 and 9879

resin base plate to shorten the beads.
After this operation, it is possible to determine the thickness of the plate thus obtained. By sanding, the thickness is made to conform to a prescribed thickness of 3 mm in the sublingual middle zone and
2 mm in the intralingual zone over a distance of
2.5 cm approximately in the direction of each of the tubers.
To soften the edges of the occlusion beads thus obtained, hitherto frustoconical grinding wheels with rounded apex have been used.
The production of perfectly rounded softened edges with a perfectly circular fillet
3 and 2 mm respectively, required a lot of skill and patience.
The present invention aims to simplify, compared to traditional, long and delicate methods, the profiling of rounded flanges in the sublingual and intralingual areas of the lower individual impression tray or the lower final prosthesis.
It relates to an abrasive rotary tool intended,
when making a mobile dental prosthesis made of synthetic resin, to be adjusted by grinding, the rounded profile of the edge of the occlusal bead of the proximal sublingual zone of a lower base plate which reconstitutes the dental arch of the lower jaw
and covers the alveolar bone, over a distance substantially equal to a centimeter and a half on either side of a median line, in the direction of each of the retromolar tubers, essentially characterized in that it comprises a first annular groove provided with Abrasive concretion, of semicircular cross section with a depth of about 3.2 millimeters.
According to a feature of the invention, said tool can also be used to adjust by grinding, the rounded profile of the intralingual rim of the lower part being understood over a distance of approximately two and a half centimeters in the extension of the aforementioned sublingual zone, in the direction of each of the retromolar tubers; it then advantageously comprises a second annular groove of semicircular cross section with a depth of about 2.2 millimeters.
Finally, the tool includes a milling and planing head of semi-spherical shape in abrasive concretion with a diameter of about two millimeters.
Other particularities and details of the invention will appear during the following detailed description of the attached drawings, which represent an embodiment of the tool according to the invention and schematically illustrate its use.
In these drawings:
- Figure 1 shows in side elevation an abrasive rotary tool according to the invention;
- Figure 2 is a gingival view of the lower assembly of a total dental prosthesis; - Figure 3 is a perspective view of a plaster model;
- Figure 4 illustrates the sanding of the base plate using the tool shown in Figure 1;
- Figure 5 illustrates the making of the rim of the bead of the lower base plate in the sublingual area, and <EMI ID = 3.1> of the bead of the lower base plate in
the intra-lingual area.
In these figures, the same reference notations designate identical or analogous elements.
As illustrated in FIG. 1, the abrasive rotary tool according to the invention designated as a whole by the reference notation 1, is a profiled grinding wheel, on which the abrasive concretion is optionally fixed
by electrolytic deposition on a profile comprising a first annular groove 2 of semi-circular cross section with a depth of approximately 3.2 millimeters.
According to a feature of the invention, the tool 1 comprises a second annular groove 3 of semicircular cross section with a depth of 2.2 millimeters.
It also includes a milling and surfacing head 4 of semi-spherical shape with a diameter of about two millimeters.
The combination of the above two grooves 2,3 and
of the surfacing head 4 in a single tool 1 is very popular with dental prosthodontists, because it makes it possible to easily carry out all of the work of adjustment to the profiled wheel of the occlusal beads to adapt them to the relief of the alveolar bone and supporting mucous membranes.
The semi-spherical head 4 makes it possible to carry out the alterations necessary to make the thickness of a base plate 5 conform to the prescribed thicknesses of
3 millimeters in the mid sublingual zone 6 and
of 2 millimeters in the intralinguale zone 7 on a:
distance of about 2.5 cm towards each of the retromolar tubers 8.9. (Figure 4)
The first groove 2 with a depth of 32 millimeters makes it possible to adjust by grinding the rounded profile of the sublingual rim 10 of the occlusal bead in the proximal sublingual zone 6 of the lower base plate which reconstitutes the dental arch of the lower jaw on a distance substantially equal to 1.5 cm on either side of a median line LL 'in the direction of each of the retromolar tubers 8,9. (Figure 5)
The second groove 3, with a depth of 2.2 millimeters, makes it possible to adjust by grinding, the rounded profile of the intralingual flange 11 of the bead in the
intralinguale zone 7 of the lower base plate over a distance substantially equal to 2.5 cm on either side of the sublingual zone in the direction of each of the retromolar tubers 8,9. (Figure 6) Figure 3 shows a plaster model 12 with which we model a blank of an individual impression tray made of synthetic resin.
On this model, using a soft pencil, the sublingual limit line 13 and the intralingual line 14 have been indicated.
The occlusal bead of the resin baseplate 5 is adjusted by successive retouching by removing the material represented by a hatched area 15.
Tool 1 then makes it possible to obtain a perfectly circular leave of 3 and 2 millimeters respectively in the sublingual zones 6 and 7 of the lower individual impression tray or of the lower final prosthesis.
It is obvious that the invention is in no way limited to the embodiment described above and
that many modifications can be made
to it without departing from the scope of the invention.
