EMI2.1
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
EMI5.1
poortjes (10) luchtdicht gesloten.
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
EMI6.1
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

a Vansant for "Machine for digging tunnels"
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
EMI2.1
The invention relates to a machine for digging tunnels, in particular for the digging of tunnels with a diameter of almost 1.0 to almost 3m, in which the soil is excavated in a space at the front of the machine under a pressure that prevents water seepage .
In such machines, the ground is excavated by a worker in a working space at the front thereof. Working under a pressure sufficient to prevent water seepage requires a number of precautions. For example, the worker must first stay in a lock where the pressure is reduced to atmospheric pressure, which takes a certain time. In an emergency, for example when suddenly a large amount of water enters, there is a great risk that the worker cannot escape death by drowning because he cannot safely reach the compartment that normally serves for decompression in time.
The object of the invention is to overcome these and other disadvantages of the hitherto known techniques, and to prescribe a machine which ensures very high safety and allows work in excellent conditions.
To this end, the space referred to above is located at the front of the machine, of a working space where
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
in an operator of the machine, separated by an airtight bulkhead and the above-mentioned workspace is hermetically separated from a space where the excavated soil is dumped, for which purpose a hermetic tube, equipped with a means of transport for the loosened soil, passes through said workspace to form a connection between the said space at the front and the said space where the excavated soil is dumped and the said working space is connected by a hermetic passage to a third space at the back of the machine, such that the operator of the machine is away from can move the working space to the latter space and vice versa without being subjected to the above-mentioned pressure.
According to this embodiment, the above-mentioned partition separating the above-mentioned space at the front of the above-mentioned workspace is provided with at least a sight glass, while the machine is further provided in the above-mentioned space, at the front, with a mechanical excavator that can be ordered from the above-mentioned workspace.
A special feature of the invention consists in that the above-mentioned hermetic tube, at the area where the excavated soil is poured, is provided with an opening with the possibility of airtight sealing, while the partition separating this space from the above-mentioned third room is equipped with a door that can be closed airtight.
Other details and details of the invention will become apparent from the following description of a tunnel digging machine according to the invention.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
This description is given by way of example only and does not limit the invention. The reference numbers refer to the attached figures.
Figure 1 is a schematic representation partly in side view and in longitudinal section of the machine according to the invention.
Figure 2 is a section on the line II-II of Figure 1.
The machine represented by these figures consists, as usual, of a cylinder (1) with a cutting shoe (3) to be moved in front by hydraulic cylinders (2).
This cutting shoe is arranged at the most forward part of a space (4), in which an overpressure is maintained to prevent water seepage from the ground mass (5) to be excavated.
This way of working is known.
However, the machine according to the invention differs from the hitherto known devices in that the space (4), at the front, is separated from a working space (5) by a partition (7).
This partition (7) forms a completely airtight partition between the pressurized space (4) and the working space (7).
The baffle (7) is equipped with a sight glass (8) to allow a machine operator to command the mechanical shovel (9) using levers mounted on the wall (7). The mechanical shovel (9) is preferably mounted pivotally on the wall (7).
One or more gates (10) can be provided in the bulkhead (7). These are in operation
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
EMI5.1
gates (10) closed airtight. The soil loosened by the mechanical shovel (9) falls on a conveyor belt (11) or a similar means of transport, which is mounted in a hermetic tube (12) that passes through the wall (7) and thus also through the working space (6).
The sleeve is further also lined by a partition (13) which forms a hermetic seal between the working space (6) and a second space (14) in which the pressure is the same as in the space (4) at the front. This space (14) into which the soil supplied by the conveyor belt (11) is poured is separated from a third space (15) by an airtight bulkhead (16) from a third and final space or passage (17).
This passage has internal dimensions in cross-section which must enable an operator of the machine to enter the latter passage (17) to the working space (16) and vice versa. due to lack of space, the passage has a cross section which is clearly shown in figure 2.
From the hitherto given description of the machine according to the invention it immediately appears that two spaces (4 and 14) and a hermetic sleeve (12) connecting these spaces are under the same pressure. The working space in which the operator of the machine is located is under normal atmospheric pressure, which considerably alleviates the work of this operator.
An equally unpressurized space is the passage (17) with ports (18-18 ') connecting the working space (6) to the aforementioned third space (15).
When only ground through the
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
EMI6.1
mechanical scoop (9) is loosened and supplied by the conveyor belt (11), this soil falls through an opening (19) of the sleeve (12). The ground then simply falls to the bottom of the space (14) where it can be mixed with water, until a mortar is formed which can be processed by a pump and discharged through a pipe.
When mainly stones or soil with a considerable percentage of stones are supplied by the conveyor belt (11), these materials are collected in a trolley (20). The cart (20) equipped with wheels (21) can be removed along rails (22). To make this possible, the opening (19) of the hermetic sleeve (12) must first be closed airtight, namely by a sliding door (23) ordered by a pressure cylinder (24). When the opening (19) is hermetically closed, a gate (25) which can be rotatably mounted along the rear of the partition (16) can be opened. The pressure in the space (14) falls to the level of atmospheric pressure and the cart, after emptying, is returned to the position shown in Figure 1.
After the door (25) has been closed again, the pressure in the space (14) is restored and the sliding door (23) is opened.
These operations can be performed several times in succession without hindering the operator of the machine located in the working area (6).
Obviously, the invention is not limited to the above-described embodiment and many changes could be made to it without departing from the scope of the patent
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
application. It is therefore obvious that more than one passage (17) can be provided if there is sufficient space for this. The cross-section of this passage is also not bound to the special shape shown in Figure 2.
From the front, excavators other than the mechanical scoop shown in the figure can be used in the pressurized space (4) and, if necessary, these appliances can be operated by more than one worker.
