Abstract

The machine can function either as a generator or a motor, and uses permanent magnet excitation with a wound armature in a disc configuration. The permanent magnet material permits high flux density (0.2-0.5 Tesla) with air gaps of 0.5-3 cm, thus permitting the use of armature windings set in epoxy rather than in a laminated iron stack. - The machine is constructed in disc format with the rotor mounted on a shaft which runs in bearings carried in the stator frame. The rotor may carry either the field or the armature, and the stator either armature or field. No brushes are needed if the field is carried on the rotor.(0/3)

Description

 <EMI ID=1.1>

W EN KIN Michel - MUS André, invention, disc-shaped electric generator or motor, with armature armature, without iron and with inductor filled with permanent magnets.

 <EMI ID = 1.1>

B: magnetic induction.

H: magnetic field strength.

The new magnets of the Ferroxdure and RES type make it possible to obtain, in long air gaps of the order of a centimeter and without reduction of the polar section, an intense magnetic induction of the order of 0.2 Tesla for magnets of the Ferroxdure type and 0.5 Tesla for new magnets of the RES type (values taken in the vicinity of product B. H maximum on the demagnetization curve of these two types of magnets).

It is therefore possible to accommodate in these large air gaps a large number of turns making it possible to obtain any operating voltage without the use of stacked sheets, the reluctance of the circuit being able to be very large (thanks to the large coercive field of the magnets).

In order to simplify the geometry of the machine, it is made up as follows:
A) Fixed or rotating inductor, in the form of two discs, made of soft magnetic material, the thickness of which is appropriate for the flux to be transmitted and on which the magnets are fixed with a shape adapted to the shape of the voltage to be obtained.

Magnets of rectangular shape seem to give good results for obtaining a sinusoidal tension (see figure 1).

For mass production, it is probably advantageous to use multi-pole ring-shaped magnets.

B) Fixed or rotating armature, consisting of a disc of insulating synthetic material in which the radially arranged coils are immersed and of a shape adapted to the type of winding to be obtained (alternator, dynamo, motor, etc.).

THE ARMATURE DOES NOT CONTAIN STACKED SHEETS.

Example of implementation: alternator. (See figure 2).

C) Assembly of the different parts. (See figure 3).

NB: The dimensions given on the drawings are an example of sizing for a

1 KW machine.

ABSTRACT DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION.

It is a generator or rotating electric motor, based on the principle of the axial air gap and having the following original features:

* Fixed armature (therefore without brushes) or wound coil, without iron, rotating in a very long air gap (5mm to 3 cm).

* Rotating or fixed inductor filled with permanent magnets such as Ferroxdure, Res and others.
