"Auto me t een tegen fronta le
botsingen beveiligende structuur" .
<EMI ID=2.1>
<EMI ID=3.1>
<EMI ID=4.1>
<EMI ID=5.1>
<EMI ID=6.1>
<EMI ID=7.1>

"Auto me one against frontal
crash protection structure ".
The invention relates to a vehicle, inter alia car with a structure protecting against frontal impacts.
The expression "head-on collision" evokes the understanding of two vehicles coming from opposite directions colliding with each other through the violent
shock and sudden stoppage of the vehicles, extensive material damage and usually serious bodily injury.
The object of the invention is now to design a vehicle which, in frontal impacts, causes less or no physical damage to the occupants.
To this end, the above structure consists mainly of two separate parts, namely a frame or an equivalent substructure, to which the wheels are connected and on which the motor and the associated equipment are mounted, and a superstructure connected to the substructure by elements which collapse in frontal collision, wherein the top of the substructure and the bottom of the superstructure are joined together according to an arc-shaped profile, all this in such a way that when the above-mentioned elements collapse, under the influence of the forces of forces, the superstructure along the substructure it is moved in an arcuate path until the superstructure occupies a vertical or almost vertical position with respect to the substructure, so that this superstructure does not come into contact with the obstacle or with the vehicle hit by the front.
Advantageously, the top surface of the above-mentioned substructure, on which the superstructure takes support, has at least one arcuate curved guide on which the superstructure rests, which guide defines a curve corresponding to an angle of <EMI ID = 1.1>
A detail according to the invention consists in that the vehicle according to the invention has a shrinking zone at least at the front, but preferably also at the rear, which allows the frontal collision to loosen and displace the superstructure relative to the substructure before a deformation of the above-mentioned guide occurs.
Other details and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description of a vehicle, including a car having a front impact protection structure, according to the invention. This description is given by way of example only and does not limit the invention. The reference numbers refer to the attached figures.
Figure 1 is a schematic side view of a vehicle according to the invention, in a possible embodiment. Figure 2 also schematically shows, in a side view, the consequences of a frontal collision between two vehicles according to the invention.
<EMI ID = 2.1>
which is equipped with a structure protecting it from frontal impact is shown in the normal position in figure 1. In figure 2 two vehicles were drawn, namely the vehicle 1 and the
<EMI ID = 3.1>
refer to the elements that determine the structure of vehicle 1. This vehicle is equipped with a substructure 2, conventionally equipped with wheels 3 and an engine compartment 4. The engine compartment can be installed at the front or at the rear. Outside the engine, of course, comes the matching equipment, as can be found in a so-called classic car.
The superstructure 2, which mainly consists of a frame and a partial body, which body can be self-supporting, fits a superstructure 5 which forms the space for feeder and passengers.
The superstructure 5 is connected to the substructure 1 by elements which in normal circumstances ensure the efficient attachment of the superstructure to the substructure, but which collapse due to the inertia of the superstructure in the event of a frontal impact.
Numerous solutions and suitable materials are obvious to solve this aspect of the problem. The elements do not have to be used in a head-on collision
<EMI ID = 4.1>
by breaking or being torn apart.
The profile.d.i, the curve according to which the top surface of the substructure 2 and the bottom surface of the
<EMI ID = 5.1>
superstructure under the influence of the inertial forces along the substructure is displaced and, as a result of the arcuate trajectory of the said profile, is brought into a vertical or almost vertical position.
The curve in which at least one, but preferably two parallel guides for the superstructure 5 are provided on the substructure 2, preferably coincides with an angle
<EMI ID = 6.1>
The space for driver and passengers must fit completely or coincide with the superstructure 5.
In the case of a frontal collision, with every vehicle according to the invention, the superstructure 5 will transition from the horizontal to a vertical or almost vertical position and this under the influence of the aforementioned inertial forces.
However, in order to prevent that the guide or guides which have to bring the superstructure 5 in the position shown in figure 2 in case of a frontal collision, would become deformed and thus the desired upward movement of the superstructure 5
<EMI ID = 7.1>
/ are by the body itself or consist of incorporated or co-operating parts therein. The purpose of the crimp zone is evident. In the event of a head-on collision, it must indeed be prevented that the deceleration of the superstructure occurs too quickly. It
<EMI ID = 8.1>
conditions that the elements that ensure the connection between the superstructure and the substructure fail, and that the superstructure is displaced by the inertial forces relative to the substructure before a significant deformation of the superstructure guidance can take place. The shrinking zone can therefore be limited to the actual part of the body that occurs at the front and / or at the rear, but may form a special structure if necessary.
Arrangements can be made to control accelerator, clutch and brake pedals electrically or electronically, but resources can also be provided to control the floor
<EMI ID = 9.1>
ensure that in the event of a head-on collision these elements do not form an obstacle to the tearing apart of the superstructure relative to the substructure. Analogous measures must be taken so that the control does not form an obstacle when the superstructure is detached from the substructure.
When two cars constructed according to the invention collide head-on as shown in Figure 2, the two superstructures will be erected upwards so that the occupants will be able to leave the passenger compartment unharmed.
When the colliding vehicle collides with a stationary obstacle, the same phenomenon will occur and the superstructure 5 will "prance", which means that it will be completely in a position that fully or almost completely corresponds to what is shown in figure 2.
It is clear that the invention is not limited to the above-described embodiment and that
<EMI ID = 10.1> to step outside the scope of the patent application. For example, it is clear that the application of the principle underlying the invention may call for a profiling of the essential structures which may differ markedly from those of so-called classic cars.
