Abstract

The system allows a caller, who has dialled a disconnected or modified number, to be given appropriate instructions from a RAM and voice synthesiser circuit. A PROM is used to store typically used words and numerals from zero to nine. A programmer selects the required words from the PROM, by use of a keyboard, to transfer them into the RAM. There is provided a voltage detection circuit which triggers the instruction message arrangement. In use, each PROM contains 8 messages which each last for 5 seconds, and ten numbers, requiring 100K. The data exchange operations are controlled by a microprocessor. The entire circuitry is lodged in a small housing and is plugged into a subscriber line.

Description

  INVENTEUR : MIREL S.A.

INVENTION : "SYSTEME ENREGISTREUR-ANNONCEUR INDIVIDUEL

A SEMI-CONDUCTEURS POUR LIGNES TELEPHONIQUES"

I. PRINCIPE

On utilise un dispositif à semi-conducteurs, à raison d'un dispositif par ligne, pour des annonces enregistrées. Le dispositif sera connecté au répartiteur principal (MDF) d'un bureau central de téléphone ;

II. DESCRIPTION DU FONCTIONNEMENT

3 pouces x 2 pouces x 1/2 pouce environ.

 <EMI ID=2.1>

 <EMI ID=3.1>

  INVENTOR: MIREL S.A.

INVENTION: "INDIVIDUAL RECORDER-ANNOUNCER SYSTEM

WITH SEMICONDUCTORS FOR TELEPHONE LINES "

I. PRINCIPLE

We can describe this new concept as follows:

A semiconductor device is used, one device per line, for recorded announcements. The device will be connected to the main dispatcher (MDF) of a central telephone office;

an announcement will be recorded on an erasable memory chip.

In modern switching systems, when a subscriber line is disconnected or its call number is changed, all calls to that line are routed to an operator. The operator requests the desired number, then after consulting a translation table, she informs the caller that the line he is asking for is disconnected or will let him know the new telephone number

of the subscriber he requests.

The proposed new system will allow all calls arriving on a given line to receive the appropriate message

without operator intervention.

II. OPERATING DESCRIPTION

The implementation of the proposed system requires the use of three types of equipment:
- an individual recording device
- a set of programming
- a cryptophonic device <EMI ID = 1.1>

It is a simple device housed in a case

3 inches x 2 inches x 1/2 inch approximately. It is connected to the conductors (a, b) of the bipolar plug end of a subscriber line on the main distributor (MDF) (see Figure 1). As soon as an incoming call is detected (inrush current), the device reads the entire message stored in memory on a preprogrammed chip (RAM), then, via a speech synthesizer, transmits a message to the conductors (a, b) of the subscriber line (see Figure 2)

The device may or may not have a certain intelligence, because the sequence is always the same:
- detection of incoming calls
- Easy to read the contents of the memory
- disconnection

Here is a typical message: "the number you are requesting has been changed; the new number is 767.12.34, thank you".

Assuming that the average message length is 12 seconds and that the voice sampling rate is 2Kbit / sec, the memory capacity will be 2 x 12 = 24 Kbit We will use a RAM of 32 K.

Although you can use the line's power supply, you need battery-powered RAM to keep the messages stored in memory.

To read the RAM, we will use a voice synthesizer chip.

A call voltage detector is used to detect incoming calls and trigger the memory read process.

 <EMI ID = 2.1>

The programming assembly is used to program the recording devices. The programming unit has stored on PROM memory chips all of the standard word messages that can be used; on the PROM are also

stored the ten digits 0 to 9.

The recording device to be programmed is connected to the programming unit and, using the appropriate keys, a message and the new call number are chosen and transferred from the PROM to the RAM of the recording device (see figure 3)

The recording set is a microprocessor system. The capacity of the PROM chips, on which all messages and numbers from 0 to 9 are stored, will vary depending on the number and length of messages.

In principle, 8 messages of 5 seconds will be stored. The storage of the 10 digits will correspond to 10 seconds and the total memory capacity must be

(8 x 5 + 10 x 1) 2 = 100 K

The total memory capacity will be 128 K

The set includes a display and reading device to control or test the message stored in memory (see Figure 4)

 <EMI ID = 3.1>

A more complex set of equipment will be necessary to store in the PROM the chosen voice messages and the ten digits (0 to 9).

The coding and the storage of the speech can be subcontracted, if necessary, to specialized companies, because the coding is carried out only once by telephone company.

v

III USE

The telephone company will receive a little PROM with all messages and numbers from 0 to 9. Each Central Office will be equipped with a set of programming and use the desired number of connectable recording devices.
