Abstract

The world-wide wireless telephony is for ten billion subscribers. It uses a pulse code modulation system, and consists of three main components namely the master, the group and the speech. The master ensures that the voice images of the telephones are presented at the precise moment required and each subscriber is allocated an address. The master transmits still pulses after every ten billion cycles. One pulse is for reset and one for set to tune the telephone. Each subscriber is identified by an alpha-numeric code. The connections to the master units are by cable cooled to 270 deg.C by liquid helium. The signals to remote addresses may be sent by satellite.
