Descriptive memory filed in support of a patent application for improvement of the Belgian patent? 882.431 of March 25, 1980,

and relating to a process for forming a zinc-aluminum coating.

The present invention relates to an improvement made to Belgian patent N [deg.] 882,431, hereinafter called main patent, and relating to a process for forming a zinc-aluminum coating.

In this main patent, mention is made of a process for forming a zinc-aluminum coating on a substrate constituted by any material, but preferably steel sheets, characterized in that a compound metal bath is used for the majority of zinc and aluminum, but containing a certain proportion of an alloy of rare earths and other metals, called mischmetall.

According to an advantageous variant of this process, the content

of said mischmetall coating is greater than 0.0005%

and its aluminum content is between 3% and 15%, with the advantage that the coatings thus formed

did not contain surface "gaps" or other defects.

The object of the present improvement is to reveal a particular composition of the bath used, a composition which has the advantage of avoiding any intergranular corrosion in the metal thus obtained.

The particular composition which is the subject of this present invention is essentially characterized in that, within the framework of that mentioned above as constituting the main patent, the following additional conditions are met:
- aluminum content, between 3% and 7%,
- mischmetall content, between 0.0005% and 0.2%,
- possible tin content \ 0.02%,
- possible lead content / 0.02
