The present invention relates to a protection device to be applied to the soil around creeping plants, such as strawberries.
In the cultivation of creeping plants various problems arise, for example with the difficulties of eliminating weeds, with the proliferation of slugs or with the jets which resume in the soil.
The invention aims to solve these various problems and further improve the cultivation of strawberries, among others, and a protective device according to the invention consists of a strip of plastic material, the width of which is slightly greater than the usual distance between two plants of neighboring lines and which is provided, on the one hand, on its longitudinal edges with notches intended to partially surround each plant with two neighboring lines, these notches being regularly spaced and correspondingly arranged on the two edges of the strip, and, on the other hand, on the longitudinal center line of ventilation holes offset longitudinally with respect to said notches.
The invention is now described on the basis of the appended drawing, by way of example only, showing in:
Figure 1 a plan view of a section of plastic strip constituting the protective device according to the invention, and Figure 2 a plan view of the protective device, according to the invention, applied to a strawberry crop.
A protection device for creeping plants as described here consists of a plastic strip 1, the width of which is slightly greater than the normal distance between two plants. So, for example, in a strawberry crop the plants are normally distant from each other by
30 cm and the rows of plants have the same distance between them.
The plastic strip then advantageously has in this case a width of 33 cm, as will be explained below.
On the two longitudinal edges of this strip are provided notches 2 regularly spaced from one another and facing each other on the two edges. The distance between two notches on the same edge also depends on the distance of the plants between them and there is therefore advantageously here also, in the case mentioned above, 32 cm from center to center and a width of notch of 8 cm.
The strip 1 is also provided on its longitudinal center line with ventilation holes 3, for which a diameter of 15 cm can be chosen. These holes 3 are offset relative to the notches 2 so as to be at the center of four notches.

corresponding to a neighboring strip, is intended to surround a plant, the bottom of the notch consists of a semicircle
and the two semicircles of said corresponding notches will form a circle to completely envelop the plant.
The surplus of the width of the bands, of which question above, is used for their mutual overlapping.
As soon as the strawberries 4 are in bloom, after a good hoeing, cleaning and flattening of the ground, a plastic strip 1 is applied between two rows of plants so that the notches 2 come to embrace the plants of each of the rows. Between each of these two lines and their adjacent line another plastic strip 1,, is applied so that here also the notches 2 come to embrace the plants of each of the lines. In the line of plants already, surrounded by the notches in the first strip, the corresponding notches in the other strip will join the first notches to completely encircle each plant. Of

distance between two plants, the edges of two neighboring bands overlap to obtain good coverage. We practice

we advantageously use the same plastic bands but cut in half in their width, as indicated by 1 'in: - Figure 2. When all the plastic carpet is placed, it is proposed to walk on it across lines for a good junction of overlaps tapes.

it protects the strawberries from the plastic material against birds, the strawberries remain clean, the strawberries <EMI ID = 9.1> to be reused the following year.
After picking the strawberries, you just have to remove the plastic strips so that the jets take root in the ground.
As mentioned above, the plastic strip has notches and holes. According to a realization before-

just have their edges perforated. This facilitates the sale and handling of such strips in rolls, which can stretch by the meter.
