<EMI ID=2.1>
<EMI ID=4.1>
<EMI ID=6.1>
<EMI ID=7.1>
<EMI ID=8.1>
<EMI ID=9.1>

powdered deodorant and antiperspirant composition in the form of a compressed cylindrical stick having a domed end at one end of the cylinder. This invention also includes the resulting stick of compressed deodorant and antiperspirant powder.
Antiperspirant compositions have been used to inhibit perspiration as well as to deodorize the human body.
until now
These compositions were available / in the form of aqueous sprays, in ball dispensers, in the form of gel sticks, creams, etc. These compositions are generally unsatisfactory to use because they tend to stick to clothing. In British Patent No. 996,560, an antiperspirant and deodorant composition in the form of a dry stick is described. Such a composition, although representing an improvement over previously known forms, is not yet entirely satisfactory because: 1. the stick is too brittle or fragile, its compress according to the patent (4.2 - 10.5 kg / cm <2>); 2. the ingredients are not easily released by friction on the body, if it is compressed at a higher pressure (70 - 210 kg /
<EMI ID = 2.1>
The term "action" used herein in the specification and in the claims refers to the phenomenon where the powder compressed into a stick form will release the ingredients by gentle rubbing. For example, a good "action" will indicate that the powder stick, when applied under gentle pressure, will release the ingredients evenly and provide a good protective coating on the body surface.
According to the present invention, there is provided a process for preparing an antiperspirant and deodorant composition compressed into a stick form. The composition comprises an antiperspirant deodorant compound selected from the group consisting of aluminum chloride, aluminum sulfate and aluminum chlorhydroxide. Aluminum chlorhydroxide in dry micronized form is particularly preferred. Further the composition contains magnesium stearate, talc, mineral oil, glycine, calcium carbonate, rice starch and water.
The amount of talc varies from 5 to 25% by weight, and is preferably about 16% by weight. The amount of antiperspirant deodorant compound varies between 20 and 80% by weight and is <EMI ID = 3.1>
<EMI ID = 4.1>
10% by weight and is preferably 5% by weight. The amount of calcium carbonate varies between 1 and 5% by weight and is preferably 2.5% by weight. The amount of rice starch varies between
10 and 40 by weight and is preferably 20% by weight. The amount of mineral oil varies between 0.0% and 1.0% by weight and is preferably 0.5% by weight. The amount of water varies from 0.0 to 3.0%
by weight and is preferably 1.2% by weight. The glycine varies between 0.1 and 5.0% by weight (depending on the ingredients chosen to be introduced into the composition) and is preferably 2.0% by weight.
To improve consumer acceptance, small amounts of fragrance can also be included, varying between 0.0001 and 1%.
In a typical implementation of this invention, one mixes
the previous ingredients until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. To the assembled mixture, a small amount of water is added and then kneaded further to ensure proper mixing. Typically, the ingredients are passed through a suitable kneader such as a Fitzmill mixer equipped with a suitable sieve so that the resulting powder has a uniform particle size. The powder is then introduced into a dome-shaped mold with a diameter of about 3.8 cm and a height of about 7.5-10 cm. A pressure of at least 42 to 210 kg / cm is applied to the powder for about 10 to 30 seconds, compressing the powder into a stick with a diameter of about 3.8 cm and a height of about 2.8 cm, stick that is easily removed from the mold.
In a modified implementation, the powder is compressed directly on a round support disc which comprises an insert of conical section intended to hold the stick.
In another example, mineral oil is mixed with the antiperspirant and deodorant component (aluminum chlorhydroxide) and the mixture is passed through a Fitzmill. Water is sprayed into the rice starch and the wet rice starch is passed through a Fitzmill. All the other ingredients are mixed together and passed through a Fitzmill. The three mixtures are then combined and kneaded until they are homogeneous. The powder is then compressed as mentioned <EMI ID = 5.1>
Sium of an equivalent compound such as zinc stearate or calcium stearate was essential to control the "action" which is best illustrated in the following example.
The use of rice starch or other finely powdered starch has been found to be essential in imparting strength to the compressed stick without adversely affecting the "action" of the product.
A commonly used deodorant compound such as
<EMI ID = 6.1>
formulation to broaden the spectrum of the resulting composition.
It may also be indicated to introduce other deodorant compounds in order to limit the amount of bacteria responsible for odors on the skin. They include, for example,
<EMI ID = 7.1>
2-hydroxyphenyl) methane in an amount of 0.1 to 10% depending on the ingredients chosen to be included in the formulation.
As previously described, the composition of the present invention contains glycine. The inclusion of glycine is advantageous because it acts as a buffer by neutralizing the acid formed by hydrolysis of the antiperspirant compound containing aluminum.
The invention will now be illustrated by the following examples.
EXAMPLE 1
A homogeneous mixture is prepared from the following ingredients:
<EMI ID = 8.1>
<EMI ID = 9.1>
High speed Fitzmill mill with a "000" screen attached. The mixture is stirred until it is homogeneous. Or, the mineral oil is mixed with the aluminum chlorhydroxide and the mixture is passed through a Fitzmill or similar mill. The rice starch is sprayed with water and the wet rice starch is passed through a Fitzmill. All the other ingredients are mixed together and passed through a Fitzmill.
Then combine the three mixtures and stir them until blended.
About 32.0 g of the resulting powder is compressed into dome-shaped sticks using a mold having a diameter of about 3.8 cm and a height of about 7.5 to 10 cm at a pressure of about
140 kg / cm. After maintaining the pressure at 140 kg / cm for about 20 seconds, a unitary antiperspirant composition is obtained exhibiting exceptional "action" and mechanical strength. To further improve the mechanical strength of the stick, the powder can be compressed directly on a disc. support which includes an insert with a conical section to hold the stick.
EXAMPLE 2
To better illustrate the advantages of the stick of the present invention, it is compared to a composition described in the patent.
