Description
<EMI ID=1.1>
<EMI ID=2.1>
l'autre 13 alimente la tête 5 en produit de pulvérisation de la base 2 ;
<EMI ID=5.1>
<EMI ID=6.1>
- des contrepoids 15 et 151 pour le flexible 9 ;
20-21 formés dans une cuve 22 les produits vers des conduites 18-19 contenue^ dans le flexible 9 ; - un cof f ret de commande 23 ;
- une conduite 24 d'amenée d'air (pour le moteur 8 et le nettoyage par turbine 12) ;
- une ligne électrique 25 ;
- une conduite 26 d'amenée d'eau ;

Method and installation of spray treatment of ingot molds and bases.
The present invention which is due to Mr.
<EMI ID = 1.1>
Brabant and Mr. P. BANKIEL, Rue les Oies 7, in
4950 Baufays, Province of Liège, Belgium, relates to a process and an installation for treating ingot molds by spraying.
The purpose of the process is to considerably improve the surface qualities of the ingot by forming a reducing film on the ingot mold after having protected the base by means of a ceramic.
<EMI ID = 2.1>
designed to eliminate the drawbacks of manual work which currently gives rise to a significant intervention of manpower and leads to irregular applications of the large quantities of material used.
The method which is the subject of the invention consists essentially in carrying out successively a spraying of the base and the base of the mold and a spraying of the mold, each of these sprays taking place using different substances or mixtures.
The installation differs in that it comprises a double spray lance with two separate heads which are supplied with two different products.
and in that the spraying of the base and of the foot takes place after the descent of the heads while the spraying of the walls takes place when the heads are raised.
In order to make the invention clearly understood,
a non-limiting exemplary embodiment of the installation will be described below with reference to the drawings in which: FIG. 1 is a sectional view of a base and of a mold provided with the spraying device; Figure 2 is a sectional view of a double spray lance; Figure 2A is a sectional view taken along the line A-A of Figure 2; FIG. 3 is a schematic view showing the whole of an installation with a gantry.
In the accompanying drawings, there is shown at 1 the mold and at 2 the base of this mold (Figures 1 and 2).
According to the invention, the installation <EMI ID = 3.1>
as a whole at 3 in FIG. 1 and comprising two separate heads 4-5 which, as will be described below, are supplied with two different products and at adequate pressures from suction and pressure pumps. These products are diffused at high pressure in fine droplets.
The lance head 5 distributes a product on the base 2 at angles of 30 to 90 [deg.] And from a height of 70 cm. The head 4 sprays over 360 [deg.] Perpendicular to its axis another product on the walls of the mold.
The product dispensed by the head 5 has the function of forming and developing a protective ceramic layer on the base 2 intended to reduce the erosion of the base and to reduce the sticking of the ingots.
This product may be that known commercially under the name “Kestrel 333” and formed from a pseudo-colloidal emulsion based on colloidal silica and on fused silica.
It is also possible to use an emulsion based on
carbon (graphite), colloidal silica and water.
Through the head 4, a product intended to create a reducing film in order to improve the surface qualities of the ingots is sprayed over the entire height of the mold.
This product can advantageously be that described and placed under protection by the applicant in patent 822,181 filed on November 14, 1974, characterized in
that to a molasses is added a synthetic composition which contains in a significant proportion one or more hydro- <EMI ID = 4.1>
saturated or not, in substance free of oxygenates and
paraffin wax and containing approximately 75% asphaltene.
The double lance 3 is driven in a rectilinear movement from top to bottom and is connected to a bracket 6 supporting a driving pulley 7 which is driven for example by means of a chain 7 by an air motor 8 and which serves to bring down and up
the double lance using a flexible 9 passing over a guide pulley 10 carried by the bracket 6.
The flexible 9 comprises three pipes which lead to three pipes 11-12-13 (figure 2):
one of which 11 supplies the head 4 with product
spraying the wall of the mold
the other 13 supplies the head 5 with product for spraying the base 2;
the third 12 brings in water and / or air for cleaning the heads.
The three tubes are made integral by a support plate 14 (Figures 1 and 2).
The spraying of the base and the base of the mold takes place after the descent of the heads; the walls are sprayed when the heads are raised.
An offset is constructively provided by which the spray head of the mold can arrive
<EMI ID = 5.1>
<EMI ID = 6.1>
- Counterweights 15 and 151 for the flexible 9;
- pumps 16 and 17 sucking from the compartments

- An air supply line 24 (for the engine 8 and the cleaning by turbine 12);
- an electric line 25;
a pipe 26 for supplying water;
- A valve 27 for controlling the passage of the air and water mixture for cleaning the heads.
Such a semi-rigid construction avoids any breakage or twisting of the lance if the machinist removes the
<EMI ID = 7.1>
not been reassembled.
Spray heads 4 and 5 are given
as examples.
Head 4 is designed so that the feed
of the product is made by a tangential arrival (figure 2A -
28) and centrifugal dispersion through opening 29; the head 5 distributes in a direct jet (throttling in 30 and relaxation in
31) in the form of a hollow or solid cone.
