<EMI ID=1.1>
<EMI ID=2.1>
<EMI ID=4.1>
<EMI ID=5.1>

INDICATOR OF TAPE REMAINING IN A CASSETTE
There are different types of counter intended for

a cassette of magnetic tape for recordings and
reproduction of information.
Other systems indicate a certain level of ribbon remaining

notified shortly before the end of the recording capacity.
In general, these different systems either require a
starting point which is linked to the beginning of the filled cassette, i.e., gives the user information on the position of the tape
that on only part of the total amount of
tape, when unwinding or rewinding.
The aim of the present invention is to provide a
tape position indicator, which can indicate the amount of
ribbon already expired or remaining available in relation to the
total capacity; regardless of the amount of tape already wound
or unwound when it is placed in the recording device.
<EMI ID = 2.1>
Another object of the invention is to provide a display device that is very easy to interpret, in this case, a series
of luminous points or segments forming a graduated scale.
but <EMI ID = 3.1> device that can use. as a graduated scale, the
same luminous points or segments already necessary for a radio station indication dial when the cassette recorder or player on which the device is placed is mounted in combination with a radio receiving apparatus, in order to save material
and surface.
Another object of the invention is to provide an indicator which is advantageously removable or can be placed at a distance from the device.
Another object of the invention is to provide a circuit which can use, as an information sensor, the discrimination of the rotation of the winding and / or unwinding cores by contact wipers, already existing in certain devices and used for other purposes. , as explained below.
With a view to achieving these goals, means are provided for discriminating the rotation time of the winding and / or unwinding cores with respect to a time base,
so that this information can be incorporated into
an electronic circuit for the purpose of supplying a series of points or luminous segments to form marks opposite a graduated scale, directly related to the quantity of tape remaining or already passed.
In order to make the invention fully understood, a non-limiting example of operation will be described below.
Fig. I shows a cassette tape reproducing apparatus. The apparatus is composed of a frame I intended to receive cassettes 2 in which a magnetic tape 3 unwinds from one core to the other and vice versa.
On the chassis 1 are mounted a winding device 4, an unwinding device 5, a capstan 6 provided with a flywheel 7 and driven by means of a belt by a motor 8, a pressure roller 9 mounted on a lever 10 and a read head II.
<EMI ID = 4.1>
Fig. 2 shows the winding device 4 in which the plate 14 is driven continuously by the flywheel 7
by means of the belt 12 and itself drives the plate 15 intended to receive and integrally drives the coil 13 by means of a friction 16.
For the same linear speed of the ribbon, which is driven regularly by the capstan, the spool 13 will therefore make a number
turns, in a given time, higher at the beginning of the winding and will decrease continuously when the tape which is wound therein gradually increases its diameter.
It will therefore suffice to measure, in any way, the rotation time of the reel 13 in order to be able to determine the quantity of tape accumulated, in relation to the diameter reached.
The winding core can, for example, control a mechanical, optical, or magnetic switch so as to provide a certain quantity of contact moments in a given time, which can thus be integrated into the electronic circuit.
In certain types of devices equipped with an automatic shut-off, there is also a contact strip 17 in the form of a wiper which can cooperate with a printed circuit.
18 mounted integrally on the frame I. This trotter 17 which is mounted on the plate 15 will therefore rotate at a variable speed depending on the diameter of the reel 13 on which the tape accumulates and when all the tape from the reel 12 has passed completely on the reel 13, the end of the tape which is attached to the core of the supply reel, prevents the plate 15 from turning again, and the wiper 17 which during the rotation came continuously and alternately bypassing the metal pads 19 and 20 in order to to provide movement information to an electronic circuit,
allows the latter to discriminate the stopping of the plate 15 and therefore the end of the tape and can order the stopping of the apparatus.
Fig. 3 shows a display board composed of a series of light emitting diodes and which represents, for example, a cassette, full, when all the diodes are on. These light points are intended to go out as the ribbon flows, so that the light points correspond to the amount of ribbon still available.
Fig. 4 shows a diagram in which we see in (i) the birth of the pulses coming from the wipers or other optical or magnetic sensors, taking the information on the winding device, as explained above.
These pulses are shaped by the circuit (mf) and then are directed to a shift register (rc), which is cleaned of the content of its information, periodically over time. At each clock stroke, (h), we memorize by the circuit
(m) the information contained in the shift register and after storage, the contents of the register are cleaned, which is therefore ready for a new counting. During this time, the information contained in the memory is sent to the display board in order to activate the luminous points in relation to the number of pulses and therefore corresponding to the quantity of tape that has passed or still needs to flow.
If it is desired to achieve, in larger devices, a more regular display device which makes it easier to interpret the indications on the display board when the device which it equips is intended to use cassettes containing very different quantities of tape, the circuit of FIG. 5.
In this circuit, we receive information from the kernel
<EMI ID = 5.1>
unwinder will also be equipped with wipers 17 which cooperate with a printed circuit 18.
The electronic circuit will therefore receive a double series of information (i and i ') and each series of information is put
shaped by the circuits (mf 'and mf ") and arrive in an anti-ccincidence circuit (ac) intended to compare the information coming from the winding and unwinding cores and to interpret them in order to send to the up / down counter ( c / d) the pulses which will be related to the discrimination obtained of the information coming from one nucleus with respect to the other The memorization and the control of the display board (ta) being carried out as in the diagram of Fig. 4 .
