<EMI ID=1.1>
<EMI ID=2.1>
<EMI ID=3.1>
<EMI ID=4.1>
<EMI ID=5.1>

(figure 6).
<EMI ID=27.1>

<EMI ID=30.1>
<EMI ID=31.1>

Device for automatic typewriter.
We knew automatic typewriters
with keystroke memorization in which, when typing
hard. text, all classic manipulations can be
encoded and stored in a memory so that the user can make corrections and modifications and make additions to the text on the draft and
correct the information in a corresponding way
memory in order to obtain a final text.
<EMI ID = 1.1>
in the typewriter a blank sheet of paper and the information previously entered in the
<EMI ID = 2.1>
the automatic typing of the typewriter so that the perfectly corrected text in the memory is likely to allow the establishment of an impeccable final letter or document.
In such machines, during corrections or additions, it is necessary to be able to access one or the other location corresponding to the location of the memorized text where one wants to make a change or an addition.
In general, command buttons are provided for this purpose thanks to which the user, taking as a reference the beginning of the text, can jump from paragraph to paragraph.
<EMI ID = 3.1>
ver thus at the desired location and can introduce the desired corrections in the text and therefore also simultaneously in the memory.
It is understood that such a location is difficult and tedious, it represents a slow manipulation and subject to errors because the user does not know
<EMI ID = 4.1>
As is known, there is the possibility of displaying in a conventional manner the information contained in a memory which allows the operator to clearly follow in a visual manner all the changes as well as the corresponding location where they are practiced in the text. This is expensive, and moreover, in order to look on the one hand at the keyboard and possibly the text having been typed and on the other hand at the display screen, the operator must frequently and to a large extent change his viewing angle.
The object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks.
With a view to achieving this goal, the device, object of the invention, is characterized essentially in that, between the paper holder and the keyboard, is arranged a display screen, the capacity of which corresponds to the line of text which is being exploited and in that means are provided by which the selection of the line is effected by the functional elements of the machine or by the coded identification of these functions.
These elements can be, for example, the line feed command or the progress of the sheet.
Under these conditions, any line can be easily selected and the changes can be visualized without practically any lateral displacement of the eyes having to occur for visualization.
This also avoids the need for a sheet of scrap paper since the operator has a
<EMI ID = 5.1>
that he exploits.
In order to avoid the use of too much of the interior volume of the typewriter or of the exterior part reserved for the typing keys, advantageously use is made of a flat display screen, for example a screen of the diode type. light emitting or liquid crystal.
In order that the display device can be executed under favorable economic conditions, it is possible to arrange for the upper case letters to be distinguished from the lower case letters by a relative increase in luminosity or by the flashing of the upper case letters.
For example, you can make the upper case flashes while leaving the lower case brightness constant.
You can also plan to underline capital letters.
It is thus possible to obtain, without major complications or high expenditure, a differentiation of upper and lower case letters by avoiding the use of a display screen capable of displaying two different graphics for each letter.
The device is made in such a way
that each manual or automatic movement of the paper holder roll to move from one line to another automatically selects the next or previous line to be displayed. Each time an end of line or line feed coding is encountered, it acts on a counter / downcounter block which makes it possible to select the corresponding line.
In order to make the invention clearly understood, we
will describe below a non-limiting example of embodiment

electronic logic 4, coded information corresponding to the keys used. This logic 4 sends the information to an electronic memory 5 as it goes.
This information can be extracted and decoded by a
<EMI ID = 11.1>
example an electron beam tube, which by scanning,
<EMI ID = 12.1>
original keystroke and has been temporarily stored in memory 5.
The device can be looped back, that is, the information encoded in memory 5 can be read out by logic 4 and sent in
<EMI ID = 13.1>
come so as to automatically activate the keys of the keyboard 2 corresponding to the stored information and. memory and corresponding to the text previously introduced in the reverse operation.
In Figure 2 which relates to the invention,
<EMI ID = 14.1> These panels being part of screen 9

arranged segments 10 allowing by their combination
the formation of the desired graphics.
These segments 10 are arranged (Figure 5) so that they can be combined with each other to represent different letters or different signs that can be

(figure 5A) which by their combination form the graphics

requested and the corresponding start of line, a gate 16 receives the command to let line 17 pass
to the display table 9 the desired number of locations, in this case in the case described, 70 encodings corresponding to a line of text.
The end of line counter 13 can be set
on its departure by a memory zero position detector 19 each time this information is encountered during the continuous scrolling of the information contained in the dynamic memory 11.
This scroll appearing a large number
times per second, it is easy to display in pulses. Retinal persistence or electronic delay causes the displayed text to appear continuously.
In the example shown, it is line 4
which is selected.
The order to determine the line to be displayed can be given by a counter / down counter 20 which is controlled for example by a switch controlled by the movement of the advancing or retreating roller of the sheet of paper.
(figure 6).
Each time the roll is turned manually or each time the roll advances
<EMI ID = 27.1>
position of the roller influences counter 20 and keeps in memory the number of the line to. which one is and each time, the comparator 14 selects the corresponding line.
The up / down counter 20 can obviously be. manually controlled, for example paired with two pushbuttons * one to move forward, the other to move backward
<EMI ID = 28.1> A small display board can be provided
21 can visually indicate the number of the line we are on.
To economically differentiate upper case letters from lower case letters, a block 22 can be provided
(capital letters detector) which each time a coding encountered corresponds to a capital letter can act on the supply 23 of the display board in order to make the locations corresponding to the display of this letter brighter.
The position detector of the roller 24 for advancing or retreating the sheet 3 of paper containing or intended to receive the text can be produced by detectors of various kinds: electrical, magnetic, optical, etc., but the principle of selection line remains the same.
Two devices for controlling the selection counter are described below as examples.
In Figure 6, of the roller 24 in advance or
<EMI ID = 29.1>
plate 25 of insulating material which is covered on one side by a sheet 26 of copper or other conductive material comprising teeth 27, the shape and spacing of which correspond to the pitch of advance of the paper from one line to the other.
Segments 27 <1> of insulating material are thus formed between the teeth 27.
The conductive plate 26 is supplied with current by a wiper 28. Two other trotters 29 and 30
are normally located on a segment 27 of the plate these wipers 29-30 are slightly offset so that when the roller 24 is rotated in one direction or the other,
i the direction of rotation is detected automatically by the contact of one or the clear wiper 29-30 reaching or leaving the copper or conductive metal more quickly than the other.
Consequently, the counter block 20 can be influenced in counting or down counting.
Another position detection device is, for example, that shown in FIGS. 7 and 8.
<EMI ID = 30.1>
is provided with notches 32 corresponding to the step of advancement of the line paper on line and drives in one or the other direction a leaf spring 33 current conductor. Rotation in either direction brings blade 33 into contact with either contact 34 or contact 35.
<EMI ID = 31.1>
in connection with the line spacing selector found in most typewriters.
For example, a lever 36 (FIG. 8) provided on the typewriter makes it possible to position along a single, a double or a triple amplitude of advance from one line to the next.
A characteristic of the invention therefore resides in the matching of the detection of line position with the chosen spacing selection.
The lever 36 makes it possible to choose the desired spacing on a typewriter.
<EMI ID = 32.1>
tooth of the wheel 31 of FIG. 7. Position II (double) corresponds to the advancement of two teeth and position III corresponds to the advancement of three teeth. In position III, we must therefore interpret the movement of three teeth
32 of wheel 31 as the selection of the next row
